Sunsets 🌙

{Colbys POV}

I went the rest of the school day trying to talk to Sam, but surprise surprise he was ignoring me. I mean, I don't blame him. He sat in a different seat in maths, to be more precise, the seat furthest from me. It stung, but I got what was coming for me. I should never have done what I did, and now I pay the price.

I burst through the door, shutting it behind me.
"Hey honey, how was school?" My mum called from the kitchen. I didn't respond, kicking off my shoes and starting up the stairs.
"Colby!" My mum called again. I sighed, walking back down the stairs.
"Yes! Sorry I didn't hear you," I called back. I started to walk to the kitchen, and was instantly hit by the smell of freshly baked cakes. Sure enough, they were sitting on the countertop.
"I asked how your day was," my mum repeated, looking up from cutting some onions up for dinner.
"Good," I replied shortly, looking down at the ground and scuffing my shoes slightly against the wood floor.
"You're a terrible liar, Colbs," my mum said softly, putting the knife down and walking up to me.
"What's up?" She asked.
I shrugged my shoulders, and cursed silently when tears began to creep into my eyes.
"Did something happen?" She persisted, swiping some hair away from my eyes. I didn't respond, however. I was too busy trying to stop the waterfall of tears that were building up in eyes from cascading down my cheeks.
"Did you get in trouble with a teacher? Get a detention?" My mum asked. I shook my head again, feeling one tear starting to dribble down my cheek.
"Did you fall out with someone?"
And with that I burst into tears, my hands flying up to cover my damp eyes as I sobbed into them. I couldn't stop crying, not for a single second.
"Oh Colbs," my mum sighed, pulling me gently into a hug. I wrapped my arms around her, sobbing loudly, so loudly that my brother Gage came down to see what was going on, only to retreat back to his room when he saw. When she pulled away, she held me at arms length, a gentle look in her eyes as I wiped the tears away. "What's happened Colbs?"

And I told her everything. About Sam; how nothing seemed to add up. How I questioned him about it, and how that ended.
"And now he hates me," I finished, sniffling again.
"He doesn't hate you Colby. Maybe just, give him some space," my mum suggested. I nodded, maybe that was a good idea. I gave my mum another hug before walking up to my bedroom. I flopped onto the bed, thoughts swarming my head about a certain blonde boy and how I couldn't bear to loose him.

Ping

I looked at my phone that was sitting the other side of my bed, sighing as I leaned over to grab it. My eyes popped out of my head when I saw who it was. Sam. I quickly unlocked my phone and opened the text, reading it carefully.

Hey Colbs, sorry about today. I was just angry. I need to explain some things to you, meet me at the lake in 15 minutes - sam x

I blinked, re - reading the message over and over again to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I wasn't. I leapt up, grabbing a hoodie and pulling it over my body, grabbing my phone and running down the stairs to shove my shoes on.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?" My mum asked, popping her head out of the kitchen.
"Can't talk, explain later, gotta go love you see you later bye!" I called, opening the door and running out. I jogged to the location Sam told me to meet him. It was a sweet little lake, buzzing with life. I slowly opened the gate, looking out onto the little wooden ledge that stopped halfway into the lake. As I looked out, I saw a little blonde boy sitting on the end, his legs crossed as he looked out at the water. I slowly began walking across the ledge, making it to Sam and sitting down next to him. He didn't say anything, he didn't show any signs he even knew I was there. I didn't say anything, and we sat in silence. A comfortable silence.
"I'm sorry," Sam spoke into the quiet.
"No, Sam. You don't have to be sorry. I -"
"I do! I got angry at you when you just wanted some answers," Sam sighed, fiddling with his fingers.
"Listen. There's things, that I can't tell you Colbs. And I'm sorry I really am. I want you to know, but you can't...." Sam trailed off.
He sniffed, a hand coming up to his eyes. I stared at him, my face softening as I saw the tears spilling out of his precious blue eyes.
"And I'm sorry, I feel like such a bad friend because I won't be honest with you but -"
"Sam! You're not being a bad friend. You're the best mate anyone could ask for. And if you can't tell me, you can't tell me. That's all there is to it, ok?" I spoke, watching Sam look up to meet my eyes. He nodded, and shifted closer to me so he could lay his head on my shoulder. I threw my arm around his tiny shoulders, rubbing soothing circles on his arm as he wiped his tears away.
" I love you," the blonde boy whispered. I blinked, tensing up as the butterflies started to flutter around my stomach. I managed to compose myself in time to respond, however.
"I love you too, Sammy."

We sat there for what felt like hours, watching the sun set in the distance. His head was still on my shoulder, my arm around him holding him impossibly closer. It was a perfect moment, a moment I was honoured to share with a perfect boy.
"I love watching the sun set," I stated, smiling to myself.
"Me too, I don't get to see them -" Sam stopped talking abruptly, pulling his phone out. The time was 7:55, and Sam's eyes widened.
"Oh my god," he breathed, standing up. He was looking around frantically, staring into the shadows with such fear in his eyes it scared me. I stood up after him, grabbing his shoulders.
"Sam! Sam calm down!" I spoke soothingly, but he pushed my hands off him.
"No I have to go! I'm so sorry, I'll see you tomorrow," Sam said quickly, turning and running away from the lake and out the gate. I watched him go, blinking in confusion as the gate swung shut behind him. I sighed, sitting back down on the ledge, taking my shoes off and dipping my feet into the cold water of the lake; watching the last slither of sun disappear behind the horizon.

Woah, who knew I was capable of writing long chapters! 😂
This is totally random but my mum and I made a Christmas cake today and it's currently in the oven and I'm in charge of making sure it doesn't burn! 😬
