"W-what do you mean?" Colby asked.
Sam's eyes were sad, filled with fear and glistening with unshed tears.
"You won't believe me," Sam decided, doing up his jacket with shaky hands.
"Try me," Colby shrugged, putting on his shoes. Sam slowly looked up at the brunette, his eyes searching his face for any sign that he was lying. Sam sighed, taking a deep breath.
"I'm... oh my gosh you're gonna hate me," Sam signed, his hands flying up over his face. Colby stepped towards the blonde, heart aching.
"I could never hate you," Colby soothed, his hand grabbing Sams and pulling them gently away from his face. Sam nodded, looking up into Colby's eyes.
"I'm not... like you. Or any other h-high-school boy," Sam stuttered, fiddling with his fingers, eyes still dancing around nervously, watching the shadows outside the windows.
"What do you mean?" Colby asked. Sam didn't respond, his words sticking in his throat from nervousness.
"Do you -"
"I'm magic," Sam interrupted. Colby blinked. Sam was staring up at him, no smile, no frown.
"Magic..." Colby repeated, eyebrows raised.
"Told ya you wouldn't believe me," Sam scoffed, reaching behind him for the door handle.
"No! Sam, Sam Wait," Colby interjected, grabbing Sam's wrist.
"Just explain, I'm listening," colby nodded. Sam sighed, glancing outside and then turning back to Colby.
"We're the light, they're the darkness," Sam said, waiting for Colby to laugh, or scoff at him or throw him out. Nothing.
"Who's the darkness?"
"The shadows."
Colby blinked. He was so confused. Sam was being so ambiguous, it was hard for Colby to understand.
"Listen, they are going to find me! They will find me and take my powers you don't understand!" Sam cried.
"Sam! Slow down. Who's going to find you!" Colby asked.
"THE SHADOWS!" Sam shouted, obviously stressing himself out.
"Ok, ok! I believe you, ok I believe you".
"What powers?" Colby said quietly.
"What?" Sam asked.
"You said you had powers."
"It's hard to explain, colby we have to go," Sam said, tugging on Colby's hand.
"Sam! Please just stop for a second," Colby begged. Sam sighed, turning back around.
"So you're telling me, that you have some, weird magical powers -"
"Don't do that!" Sam interrupted.
"Do what?"
"Make fun of me. I'm not lying!" Sam cried, tears slipping out his eyes.
"They will find me, Colby. I'm telling the truth," Sam repeated. Colby sighed, pulling Sam into a hug.
"Why do you think I have to go at 8 o'clock every night. We have to go the waterfall, where we're safe. They can't find us there," Sam explained. Colby nodded, pulling Sam out to arms length.
"Promise me you're telling me the truth," Colby asked.
"I promise."Sam clutched onto Colby's arm as they walked down the dark streets. It was pitch black, and even Colby was feeling uneasy.
"What do they look like?" Colby asked.
"What? Who?" Sam asked.
"The shadows you were talking about?"
Sam shrugged.
"I don't like talking about them."
Colby nodded, swinging a comforting arm around sams shoulders as they neared a field.
"It's through there," Sam said, nodding at the direction of the field.
"There's no way there's a waterfall in there. I went here all the time as a kid," Colby said with raised eyebrows.
"Say that again in 2 minutes," Sam smiled. The blonde quickly opened the gate, letting both him and Colby into the field and then shutting it behind them. Colby turned around, noticing the Golbach's car that he always noticed on their driveway sat just by the gate.
"That's your car," Colby pointed out, causing Sam to smile a little.
"How very observant of you," Sam joked, latching back onto colby's arm. The two walked through the field, Sams eyes darting nervously around, but spotting nothing.
"You know that we're walking towards a bush, right?" Colby asked, as Sam nodded his head. Above them, a crescent moon hung from the sky, shining out a small emission of light to the pair. Suddenly, the grass rippled. Sam froze, his grip tightening on Colby. It rippled again, but faster. Way faster. It was like an animal was running through the grass, heading straight towards them. But nothing was there. And that's when Colby saw it. A tall, slim figure emerging from the darkness, looming over the two terrified school boys. It had bright red eyes, and they were staring straight at Sam. "Run..." Sam breathed.
"RUN!"
And so that's what they did. The both of them sprinted through the tall grass, Sam in front, leading the way. They were heading straight for that bush again, and Colby furrowed his eyebrows. What the hell was he doing. They reached the bush, and just as Sam reached out to move the branches, another figure emerged from the darkness, straight in front of Sam. Sam shot back, hanging onto colby. Colby turned to go the other way, but there was another behind them, and to the left of them, and to the right of them. Sam was crying, Colby could feel the tears soaking through his shirt. Sam has buried his head in Colby's shoulder, and little sniffs could be heard as Sam wept.
"Stay away from him!" Colby shouted, but nothing happened. The shadows just got closer, and closer and closer. "GET AWAY!" Colby tried again. But nothing. And then, it went dark. Everything was dark. Like someone had switched off all the street lamps and put a curtain on the moon. Colby shouted out, but he couldn't even hear his own voice. He could hear nothing, see nothing. And then just as quickly as it came; the world came back. The light returned, and so did the sound. Everything had came back. But there was an empty space in Colby's arms where Sam should be.Well - I bet none of you suspected that 🤪
