Maddie

I awake to hands shaking my body. A pair of blue eyes staring into mine as I groggily wake up. I got almost no sleep last night, and you could imagine why. Billie being by my side comforted my anxiety some. At one point, I had woken in the night. I was terrified from a nightmare. I dreamt that the police had found me and I was separated from Billie and my Mom forever. It's not like I went to jail or something. Instead, I was thrown into an endless void full of my guilt. It was the ultimate punishment for my actions.

But Billie rubbed my back to solace me. She remind me that she was there, and it was only a dream. Then she held me tightly for the rest of the night.

I grumble in response to the alarming awakening.

"Maddie...? Maddie?" I shook voice whispers. I sit up abruptly then bring my hands to my hair. Billie is standing to the right of me, out of bed.

"Hm? I'm up."

"Maddie... I think we're in trouble. What do we do? Do we leave?" She begins to panic.

"What? What's wrong?" I stand up out of the bed. I can already feel my heart rate rapidly increase. Billie's head is turned, looking out the window.

"Billie?!" I ask more aggressively.

"Police. I uh- saw a few searching outside a few minutes ago. I think more are coming," she looks back at me. "I heard the neighbors talking to one. They're checking the rooms."

"For what?" I question.

"A white, teenage girl with brown hair," she mumbles.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive," she bites her lip anxiously.

"Get your shit together and get in the car," I command.

"Maddie.." she begins.

"Go. We're not safe here anymore."

She quickly runs back and forth grabbing everything we brought. Luckily everything was almost completely packed up.

Billie hurries out the door and straight into the parking lot. I follow behind her as she starts the car. I give the room a scan before closing the door.

I run to the car along with Billie but stop at the door, realizing that the car won't start. Billie keeps turning to key but each time it shuts down.

"Fuck. Fuck. Fuckkkkkkk," Billie curses as she continuously turns the key.

"Stop." I tell her, "let's run."

"What?!" she looks over at me. "Are you fucking crazy!?"

"It's the only way. We don't have enough time to start the car, that thing will take hours to get to work again. You see those buildings?" I point to a bunch of buildings at the end of the main road.

Billie nods.

"We run down this road here then to those few buildings. We can hide out for a second, catch our breath then book it behind them. There's a field other than some train tracks. Maybe we can train hop."
