Billie

"Yes! Billie did you see that?!"

"Hm?" I snap out of my thought and put my focus on Xavier.

"My strike?"

"Oh... sorry, no I didn't," I mumble.

He shakes his head at me sarcastically then sits beside me after his turn at bowling.

"You've been in your head all day Bil. Is something up?"

I shrug, "no, I'm just tired."

"You sure?" He asks with his fountain drink between his lips.

"Yeah, I'm actually good. But, I stayed up all night last night and got like, no sleep."

"Oh right, on a call with Maddie," he rolls his eyes.

"Fuck off," I mumble.

"I'm right."

"And?"

Xavier rolls his eyes again and pushes me up for my turn to bowl. My mind is moving slow so I don't try hard to get a good score. Xavier is already beating my ass and I don't think I'd be able to catch up. And Xavier loves to win, so I'll let him claim his victory this time.

After my turn, four girls approach me. They all look young and all have a phone in hand.

"Are you Billie Eilish?" One asks shyly.

"Yes ma'am," I chirp.

"Can we uh- get a picture." The other girls nod in hope.

"Of course!" She hands her phone to, which looks like, her dad behind her. I wrap my arms around the four and take the picture. I ask for all of their names and we chat for a little. They're all nervous to talk to me, which is stupid because they shouldn't be. I'm just like them, just with some attention to me.

I sit beside Xavier again once they leave.

"I keep forgetting you're famous," he breathes out.

"I'm not famous."

"Yeah, you are. Just wait till you release that album, people are gonna go crazy. Like- you're gonna win Grammys n' shit."

"I highly doubt that," I snort. "I'll be lucky if it gets as much attention as the EP."

"That album is gonna be a movie, just you wait," he reassures.

"We'll see next year... okay?"

"Don't underestimate your talent Billie," he pats my shoulder then stands abruptly. "Last round! I'm gonna flame yo' white ass!"

"You've been flaming me since round two dipshits," I laugh.

"Stop thinking about that girl, then you can catch up," he jokes while grabbing a bowling ball.

"When's Jade gonna get here?" I question.

"Uhhh, not sure. Maybe 15 minutes?"

"She's always late," I huff out.

"That girl got a perfect record and is the sweetest damn girl I've ever met, yet she's always late," he replies.

"That's why we love her," I point.

He sticks his pointer finger out at me with a smile, "and that's why we love her."

"In your face!" Xavier exclaims with his hands in the air. "154 to 89! Suck on that!!"

"I let you win," I murmur. "I'll get you next time."

"Uh- no. You're just bad at bowling."

Before I can reply, Jade comes walking in. "I'm so sorry I'm late, jeez. I was caught up at work then my mom made make lunch for my brother and-"

"Jade!" Xavier interrupts, "it's all good babe."

"Hey Billie," she waves at me then sits beside me.

"Hi, how was work?"

"It was awful today," she sighs. "The kids wouldn't listen to me once."

Jade works at a children's daycare during the summer. She got the job from a family friend during freshman year and works there all summer for extra cash. She's just a helper there, she changes diapers, cooks hangs out with the kids, and does extra chores. I'm a bit envious of her job, I love kids and it sounds like a blast to me.

This year is her last year, so she's a little disappointed. But recently, work has only been stressing her out and she can't find any fun anymore like she used to.

"Are you working tomorrow?" I ask.

"No, thank god. Hopefully, these kids' parents can get their act together. Literally, today one sent their child in with no pants! And they had so much sugar the night before that it caused a giant sugar rush so they got no sleep. Then when he came in this morning, he was so tired he could barely walk! I mean, who does that?!" Jade beings to ramble on.

"Bitch, I'll literally come in for your next shift and help out, if that takes off extra stress," I offer. "You know how much I love kids."

"That's sweet Billie," she gives me an attempted smile. "But my boss won't let anyone else help out as of now. I mean, I would you could, that would be so fun! But we have no more room."

"All good, I'll bring you a smoothie for your next shift or something."

She smiles, "you're the best. You know how much I love you, right?"

"I do, yes."

The rest of the day, Xavier, Jade, and I finish another round of bowling. Then pick up some food at the nearest Taco Bell. Maddie texts me asking if she can come over this weekend, of course, I accept. As we sit in the Taco Bell drive-thru, all I can think about is when I'll see Maddie again.

UH sorry that this chapter is so stupid, it's a filler.

Also Jade's little story about work at the daycare is some of my own personal experience</3
