I'm walking around the station with a huge grin on my face, and why the fuck not? Fuck—I've never felt this happy before in my life, not even when I got into the force, the lads are looking at me like I've lost the plot. Maybe I have, but in twenty-eight weeks I'm going to be a daddy—in twenty-eight weeks, I need to woo my girl...
My girl...
Never in my thirty-two years have I ever had a girl, I had a focus point, and that was the police force, my beauty had changed that for me though...
My beauty, fuck, I've never felt such fear as I did yesterday when she collapsed in front of me, tell you what, it's a whole new experience to care deeply for someone other than your family.
"So, it's true," my dad says as he comes up to me.
"What's true?" I ask confused.
"Well, everyone has been asking me who or what has put this huge grin on my boy's face," he tells me. "Of course, I had no idea what they were all talking about, so I thought I'd come and ask my boy myself" he grins. "So, who or what has put this smile on your face?"
Shit, I don't know if Helen wants me to tell anyone, just yet...
Actually, Maria already knows, so I get to tell someone too, it's only fair...
Yeah, well done there, Luke—ya sounded REAL grown up there, mate...
"I'll tell you Dad, but you gotta promise not to tell anyone," I tell him. "At least until I check with Helen that I can tell you's" I plead.
Dad groans. "I can't keep shit from your Ma, son—she can smell a secret from a mile away" he grumbles.
I also didn't know she's a dog in her spare time, either...
"Just until I get the okay from Helen, Dad. And I promise I'll tell everyone everything," I tell him.
"Helen?" Dad frowns. "Isn't that the midwife?" He asks me with a grin. "She talking to ya now, eh, son?"
"Yeah" I grin.
"Told ya" he grins happily. "Us Rathe men are persistent, stubborn bastards" he chuckles.
"So come on then, out with it" he nudged me.
"Well, I've er—me and Helen are dating," I tell him.
"Oooookay" he frowns confused.
I sigh heavily moving away from him slightly. "She's also, pregnant—with my baby," I tell him flinching with my eyes closed expecting a twat across the back of the head.
"I'm sorry—what?" he asks me.
"Helen" I gulp. "She's er—twelve weeks pregnant with my—OW, fuck DAD" I groan as I rub the back of my head where he's just smacked me.
"How many fucking times have I told you to wrap the salami, son?" he growls.
"Daaaad" I groan. "Can we not call my dick a salami? Give me some credit" I growl.
"Do you really think I give a fuck about what you wanna call your pecker, son?" He growls.
"It's not a pecker, either" I mutter.
"Luke" he hisses. "This is, serious shit" he growls.
"Why is it, serious shit?" I argue. "You knew how desperate I was to talk to her—"
"I think you've done enough talking don't you?" He growls. "Jesus fucking Christ, you don't do things by half do ya?"
"Helen said she was on birth control—I just lost it, dad, I had to be—" I tell him before he cuts me off.
