Anne
The light filtered through the bare blossom as the golden sun awoke from its slumber. This was the last rising I was to watch in this bedroom through a window I'd learned to love. It was sad to see how my world, the one I created in this very room, was put into this last luggage. All the things that made this room mine fit into an enclosed case. You never realize how little you own until you can put it all in a few boxes. I set the last of my things into the case and closed it slowly. I took a moment to look around. I had made it so colorful before. Now it was bare as it was before me.
I heard the clearing of a throat at the door. I glanced over to see Matthew and Jerry standing there.
"All packed?" Matthew asked.
I nodded quietly letting them take the last bag. Pulling my green coat from the bed I took a final glance.
"I'll return dear Snow Queen. One day," I said softly going to the door.
Officially I closed the door to my childhood. It was time for my next step. The Queens Academy. I accepted admittance late. But they were gracious to uphold my passing into Queens. I was even more lucky to have my dearest friends coming with me. Ruby, Jane, Tilly, now Diana, and even Josie Pye.
The click of the handle making its place in the lock. I felt the sadness. I wasn't sad up until this very moment. Not only was I leaving Green Gables, but Gilbert was also leaving for U of T. And I hadn't told Diana of Gilbert's proposal yet. That is because she is living with Josephine and Cole now. Or at least since she came back from finishing school in Paris. Well, she didn't quite finish to be honest.
Eventually coming down the stairs I held the last bag of mine. I got to the bottom seeing Marilla packing the last of the food in a basket for my travel. They couldn't leave with me, they had things to do at the farm. It was the prime of crops. I couldn't ask them to lose money for my emotional railroad. Marilla smiled seeing me ready to head off. She presented the basket. I looked at it. I couldn't bring myself to take it.
"I don't wanna go. I don't want to leave you," I cried.
"Oh Anne!" She gushed wrapping her arms around me. "We will visit you real soon. But you are doing it. You're becoming an incredible young woman."
"I couldn't have imagined leaving Green Gables. How am I supposed to now?"
"Because you are a strong, independent, outspoken, woman who can accomplish any task if you put your mind to it," she hummed stepping back. "And Gilbert will be with you."
"He's leaving too."
"No one is leaving you Anne. We are all here. Just write to us and we will reply."
I nodded forcing her into another tight hug. Matthew and Jerry made their presence known with the door squeaking. I looked to the two men standing there. One like my brother, the other like my father. I went to Matthew hugging him tightly. Jerry had slide outside away from the scene. Matthew took my case to the wagon. I followed looking for Jerry. He was at the picket fence. I wandered over as e wagon was prepped and we were awaiting Gilbert.
I made way on the other side of the dance coming face to face with the French boy. The one I could call my family. He was looking out at the vast forest before us. I glanced over my shoulder at it.
"Jerry," I prompted.
"I don't want you to go," he said softly as a tear tumbled out his eye.
"I know," my voice welled up beside my heavy emotions. "But I'll be back soon, I swear on it."
"You'll have your own life," he said wiping his sniffling nose.
"You are apart of my life Jerry. We have been through so much together, I won't ever forget it. We are family," I thought of a French word for it, "Toujours."
"Always," he agreed.
I then enveloped him in a half hug over the fence. Jerry moved when he heard the crunching of the ground under a pair of feet. I let go of Jerry looking to him. To the boy who I'd promised a future with. I looked to Jerry who managed a smile and urged me to go to him. Leaned over the fence placing a kiss on his cheek before departing to Gilbert's presence. He opened his hand to me. I took it feeling his fingers enclose between mine. And it felt good. Knowing he was right there. Practically connected to me.
The reality of is parting hasn't hit yet. I'd been pushing the time away. I only began thinking of it as we neared Queens.
"Will you be alright?" I asked out of the blue.
"What do you mean?" Gilbert looked to me.
"Eyes on the road ahead," I urged pausing to resume my previous thought. "When you must leave, when we are parted. Will you be alright?"
"As long as the promise is kept and you continue to write to me. I will be better than alright," she smiled childishly. "Will you?"
"I will miss Green Gables dearly," I sighed about to continue.
"Ouch," he laughed.
"Though, I will miss you the most Gilbert Blythe," I finished after slapping his shoulder playfully.
We were creeping up on the Queens Academy. I only got more anxious than ever. I did not want to say goodbye yet. I wasn't ready. I didn't want to be. I had only just gotten him. I knew I had his promise wrapped around my finger. But how, after our heartfelt promises we were to make forever, was I supposed to leave him. I hated it. The idea of leaving. But I was stepping into a new part of my life. My adult life. Our adult life. I was to be married to the Gilbert Blythe after schooling. I was already steps ahead of the other girls.
We pulled up to the front lawn of the school. I saw all the other girls and excitement ran through my veins. In no time I had jumped out and rushed to my friends. How I'd missed them. Diana coming behind me. Everyone rejoiced at Diana's sudden arrival. I was surprised to see her father manning the carriage. I then remembered gilbert was getting my bags. I was going to retrieve them when my hand was grabbed.
"What is that?" Diana gasped pointing to the glittering ring in the sunlight.
"I forgot to tell you," I said shyly.
All the girls looked at me intently. I just glanced back iver my shoulder looking to a smiling Gilbert.
"Oh my god Gilbert Blythe proposed to you!" Tilly said loudly.
"Simmer down," I laughed. "Yes. He did. But it's waiting until both of our schooling concludes."
Diana looked upset. "You didn't tell me!" She squealed. "Who knew before me?"
"Only the Cuthberts, Sebastian, and Miss Stacey," I said.
"I knew it!" Ruby giggled. "Where did he bend to one knee? Was it romantical?"
"It was. But I must retrieve my bags from him. Though he did where we first met," I said leaving my friends in excitement.
I approached Gilbert who was conversing with Mr.Berry. I hummed lightly and Gilbert dismissed himself from the conversation. That was after he congratulated us both for the engagement.
"I assume that the news will get out quite quickly," he assumed.
"That it will."
"Good. We will invite everyone when the day becomes us," he boasted.
"Gilbert!" I nearly hissed but was smiling too much I do so. "Why must it be so big?"
"Why not?"
"I think it's quite more intimate when it is small and filled with those who support you dearly. Friends and family members."
"Whatever you want Miss Blythe."
He snaked his hands around my waist and pulled me to him. I giggled both happily and nervously. His eyes burned into mine right before our lips connected once again. I could hear the gushing from the girls behind us. We both laughed within our kiss getting embarrassed by our friends giddiness. Pulling away I knew it was that time. The time I dreaded.
"I don't want to say goodbye."
"Then don't. I'll see you soon," he cleverly came up with.
"I'll see you soon," I said moving my bag from his hands to the ground beside me. He went to climb onto the wagon. I held myself poorly pretending to be okay. He glanced back. He smiled shaking his head. He hopped off kissing me twice more before truly heading out.
"I'll write to you," we said in unison.
"I have follow up questions," I said.
"As do I," he said.
He waved to me. And I waved back. Then being recieved my closest friends. They gushed in excitement for me. I could admit I was quite excited too. For school and for after. I think I was ready. What Gilbert said as it wasn't a goodbye, that made it better. Though immediately that night I write to him fiercely. Sending it out the next morning.

A/N: Ahhh this is crazy. Only four more chapters until book one concludes! It's so crazy! Thank you all for reading this far. I'm probably the most inconsistent publisher ever 😂 thanks for bearing with me. Also I highkey loves writing this scene of Jerry and Anne saying goodbye. It would've been amazing to see something like that on the show. Anyways, ENJOY! 😁😁😁
