Prince Zen has asked me to bring Reila to his office today. It's been a week since her arrival and they haven't spent much time together so hopefully this will be his attempt to be nice since she's here whether he wants it or not. In his absence, he's had me stay with her as I have been. I can tell she's still nervous about the interview and disappointing her parents, but she is talking and expressing herself more openly now, though it's only with me. She's spoken with Obi a few times and it's really brought out her sarcastic nature since he's just the same. I refuse to leave her alone with him but it's quite amusing to listen to their teasing exchanges. They seem to keep each other on their toes at least.
I knock on her door and call for her but upon hearing no response, I sigh and immediately head toward the library. I've found her here three other mornings when I've come for her, curled up in some part of the library with an open book in her lap. At least she's getting sleep somehow. I nod a greeting to Taine as I move past him to wake Reila. This time, she's curled up in the window seat, her arm dangling off the side with the book on the floor below her. I always hate waking her since she looks so peaceful, but at least this time it's Master's orders.
"Miss Reila, it's time to wake up."
One eye slowly opens before closing again as she shifts and stretches.
"I don't want to." She whispers.
"Prince Zen has requested you in his office."
I grin as she sits up straight and her eyes flick open. "Did he really?"
"Yes Miss." She shoots me a look and I sigh. "Yes, Miss Reila."
"Still not quite what I'm looking for..." She mumbles under her breath as her back cracks loudly. "Oh, that hurt a bit."
As Reila and I make our way toward Zen's office a short while later, having led her back to her room to change and freshen up, I notice her fidgeting slightly with the sleeves of her sweater. I'd like to ask what's on her mind but I don't want to pry. It's likely just nerves since she and Zen haven't been around each other much and she has a lot of pressure on her. She pauses in the middle of the hall and turns to me.
"Prince Zen doesn't like me, does he?"
My eyes widen. Why do I have to be in the middle of things again?
"No, no. He's just nervous, like you. I'm sure he'll warm up to you soon." I offer her a small smile despite the unease at lying to her.
"I hope so... This has to go right." She takes a deep breath before plastering a small, fake smile on her face. "Let's go, I don't want to keep him waiting."
Zen dismissed me shortly after I brought her in, so now I'm not sure what to do. It was strange enough trying to adjust to spending my time looking after Reila instead of him, but now I'm used to spending time with her. I hope that she enjoys her time with him though. I jump slightly as I turn the corner in the hall and find Obi grinning at me. He seriously seems to be everywhere.
"Shouldn't you be off annoying someone or napping in a tree?" I ask.
"Shirayuki is busy with inventory so I'd thought I'd check on my favorite new couple." He smirks as he falls into step beside me. "So how are things with the lovely Miss Reila?"
"There's nothing between us. She's currently spending time with Prince Zen."
"Oh Mitsuhide, it's cute that you don't know what's right in front of you when you see it. If you don't realize that you're attracted to Miss Reila, I may claim her for my own."
I eye the window up ahead and as we pass it, I shove him out before continuing on my journey to find Miss Kiki. She's training the knights today, so I guess I will join her. I haven't been practicing lately since I've been busy.
I catch sight of a pair of aqua eyes as I counter Kiki's attack, then immediately tear my gaze away so I don't freeze up and get myself injured. I duck her next attack and bring my sword upward, knocking hers from her grip. I catch the sword and hand it back to Kiki with a smile. I sheathe my sword and turn to face Zen and Reila who had settled a safe distance away. Her eyes are wide as she stares up at me and I remember her asking not too long ago for me to show her how to fight.
"That was amazing Mitsuhide!" She says with a bright smile.
"O-Oh, thank you Miss Reila." I mumble, internally cursing as I feel heat rising to my face. She always seems to catch me off guard. "How has your day been so far?"
"Enlightening." She chuckles and to my surprise and further confusion, Zen laughs as well.
"I'm not sure what that means."
They don't explain further and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
"I'm still so jealous that you can fight and work with swords..." She mumbles under her breath.
"You don't know how to fight?" Zen asks, arching a brow.
"Miss Nedia said it wasn't in my life's plan to need to know things of that nature."
"Would you like to learn while you're here? I'm sure that between Mitsuhide, Kiki, Obi, and myself, we can teach you at least the basics."
Her eyes light up excitedly as she looks between me and Zen.
"Really? Y-You would do that for me? Mitsuhide told me no when I asked him."
I hold my hands up in surrender as Zen cuts a look toward me.
"I was worried that you wouldn't approve or that she would injure herself. I'd told her that she could ask you."
