I wake up to the sound of someone snickering. I recognize it as Obi and scowl, wondering what the catlike man is doing in my room. I open my eyes and as they settle on him with a glare, I realize that we're not in my room. So, where are we? I'm in the library... Reila asked me to stay with her for a while, so I sat back down. She read her book as we talked lightly. I remember telling her that no matter what happens with the interview, she should have fun while she is here, not much after that. I guess I fell asleep, but where is Reila? I tear my gaze away from Obi who had folded himself into one of the chairs across from me, and find Reila asleep beside me, curled up against the back of the couch. I also discover what Obi must be laughing about... Somehow my hand is lightly holding hers. My eyes widen and I quickly pull my hand away. How did that happen?
"I'm insulted, Mitsuhide. I thought you were my friend, yet here you are lying to me." Obi feigns an insulted tone and I roll my eyes in response. "You said there was nothing between you but I find you asleep together holding hands. Really, Mitsuhide? I'm so telling Master."
"Oh shut up." I sigh, picking up her book and tossing it at him. "Miss Reila was upset and asked me to stay with her for a while."
Obi jumps from the chair before the book can hit him and he smirks at me from a few feet away.
"I bet you really comforted her, didn't you?" He croons as he puckers his lips.
"Are you that bored that you have to come up with wild accusations to throw at me?"
"I just comment on what I see." He shrugs.
Reila shifts in her sleep, drawing our eyes from our staring contest as we wait to see if she wakes up. To our relief, she falls still again but my eye twitches slightly as I notice her hair falling into her eyes. I want to brush it away but I know that if I do, Obi will find a way to twist it into something intimate. I sigh and do it anyway and he starts to tease me instantly. I cut a glare back at him and hiss at him to be quiet as I get to my feet. The last thing we need is for Reila to wake up.
"Obi? What are you doing here?"
We both freeze and share a look before turning back to the blonde. She is staring up at us in mild confusion while rubbing her eyes.
"Well, Miss, I came here to find a book to read." I shoot him an incredulous look. There's no way.
"Oh really? What book? I hope it's something about how to get cats out of trees since you have a habit of getting stuck." She says around a yawn.
I chuckle as Obi opens and closes his mouth, trying to come up with some sort of retort.
"Hm, cat got your tongue?" I bite my lip to hold back a real laugh as she smirks up at him.
"You win this round, Miss." He scowls before leaving the room through the window.
"Perhaps he could find a book on how to use a door as well..."
After dropping off Reila at her room so she can get ready for the day, I leave in search of Prince Zen. His plan of simply not telling her has backfired. She knows how he feels even though he and I both never said it out loud. I find him walking across the lawn with Shirayuki. I'm sure if Reila saw that it wouldn't help her fears either. I make my way over to them and greet Shirayuki in return before pulling the prince aside. I tell him part of what Reila had said last night, about seeing the look in his eyes and he curses.
"So what do I do?" He asks me.
"The choice is yours, but Miss Reila is nice and understanding. I don't approve of lying to her though. She doesn't deserve it."
Before he can say anything further, our attention is drawn away by Shirayuki asking about who Obi is with. We both turn in unison to find Obi and Reila standing near a tree.
"That can't be good." He mumbles under his breath before pulling Shirayuki along as we head toward them.
"I've never been so insulted!" Obi's dramatic tone reaches my ears before we even reach them.
"Then you don't listen much, do you?" She shoots back with a smirk. "If you ever ask me to be honest, don't get mad at my answer."
"Are you clinically insane or just incredibly annoying?"
"Probably both. You have your entire life to be a jerk, why not take the day off?"
"Remember when I asked for your opinion? I don't either."
"I'm trying my absolute hardest to see things from your perspective, but I just can't get my head that far up my-" Reila trails off her insult as she notices us. "Oh hello Mitsuhide, Prince Zen."
"What was that?" Zen asks as she and Obi both laugh.
"Just some lighthearted fun, Master."
Obi gets distracted by the guards meeting with Kiki nearby for training and slinks off to join the fun, leaving the four of us to stand around. As the situation sinks in, I start to wish that I'd gone with Obi instead. I'm with Prince Zen, the girl he's in love with, and the girl he's pretending to enjoy spending time with. Now what? To my surprise, Reila smiles over at Shirayuki before introducing herself since Zen and I seem to be frozen in our places.
"It's nice to meet you Miss Shirayuki, I've heard much about about you."
"It's great to meet you as well. Obi has mentioned you a few times. I think he considers you a good friend."
"Is he like that all the time? He seems a bit peculiar."
Zen and I watch the girls slowly drift off together as they talk, leaving me to give Zen a pointed look.
"It seems they like each other. Perhaps now it will be easier for you to tell her the truth."
"Can't you tell her?"
"Zen, you're the second prince of Clarines. What kind of leader could you be if you were afraid of a young woman?"
"A smart one..." He mutters as we trail after them.
