I wake up and go to stretch and move away from the sunlight coming from the window but there's a weight pressing on my side. I slowly open one eye and look down before the other one flies open. I'd fallen asleep in the library while Reila was reading, that much I knew for sure, but I didn't expect to wake up with her curled up to my side. Her hands are lightly holding the fabric of my shirt as she sleeps softly. A smile crosses my face at how peaceful she looks and the fluttering feeling in my chest. I'll let her sleep for a while longer. This is the kind of morning that I would enjoy having all the time, but instead of making me happy the thought only saddens me. The next three and a half weeks are going to go by quickly and if I try to enjoy it now, it'll only make it harder when she goes. I don't have the heart to push her away either though, especially since she doesn't even know how I feel and what her presence does to me. I sigh and gently brush the hair from her eyes before starting to run my fingers through it. Her hair is soft and silky and I can smell a hint of a blackberry scent from her soaps. My heaven is shattered as Obi walks in. I go to quietly tell him to go away but he holds up a hand to silence me.
"Master and the others have returned. As adorable as this is and how much I pray that this means you finally told her or kissed her or something... Don't forget she still has to pretend with Master." How could I forget?
"Nothing happened between us. I haven't told her anything either. She did piece together that I hit you but I just told her that it was a friendly disagreement."
"You should have told her the truth. Maybe then you would have gotten somewhere." He smirks.
I shoot him a look as she shifts in her sleep. "Don't you dare tell her."
"My lips are sealed. Yours should be sealed to hers though, but that's not my business."
"Yet you make it your business." I sigh. "So, why are you here again?"
"Master has requested her in his office."
After Obi leaves, I wait a few more minutes before deciding to wake her. I'd rather let her sleep, but I can't refuse a request from Zen. I move slightly and press a soft kiss to her head before gently rubbing her arm. She starts to move and buries her face in my shirt, groaning for Miss Nedia to leave her alone. I chuckle softly and tell her that she needs to wake up. Her whole body tenses before she slowly lifts her head, her aqua eyes peering up at me as her face turns red. I hold back a smile as she scrambles over to the other side of the couch while apologizing repeatedly.
"It's alright, Miss Reila. I'm just happy that you were able to get some rest."
"Says the man who fell asleep five minutes after we got here." She mutters as her blush fades. "So, what are the plans for the day?"
"Prince Zen and the others are back. He has requested your presence. I'm sure it's to keep up appearances for the interview since he's been gone for a while."
Her smile fades as a sigh leaves her lips. "Right... I'd almost forgotten. I will go get ready."
I offer to meet her outside of her room whenever I'm ready as she passes by and she thanks me for the offer.
"Mitsuhide?" I hear behind me.
"Yes Miss Reila?"
"Thank you for staying with me."
I lean against the wall across from Reila's room a few minutes later, having gone back to my room to change and freshen up. As soon as she left my side I felt an emptiness in my chest. I hated it but it's a feeling I will have to get used to soon enough. Maybe Prince Zen's return and the looming deadline for the interview will give us enough distance for me to prepare myself for her departure. Her door opens and she steps out in a simple light blue dress and I notice a thin blue ribbon tied into her hair to keep it out of her face. She looks beautiful. She smiles up at me and I mentally curse as my face warms.
"A-Are you ready, Miss?"
"Only if you do one thing for me, Mitsuhide." She smirks.
"What is it?" I ask, unsure of what to expect of her.
"Call me Reila or Rei."
"Sorry Miss Reila. I forget sometimes."
"That's still not the right thing. Leave off the 'Miss' and just call me by my name. Please?"
I try to avoid looking at her as she pouts slightly in an attempt to win me over. If I look directly at her, I will lose immediately.
"But Miss-"
"Miss what?" She cuts in.
"Miss Reila-"
"Miss what?" She repeats hopefully.
"R-Reila."
Her eyes light up as she claps in excitement. "See!? You did it!"
"That felt so strange..." I mutter in shock and slight horror. "Please don't make me do that again..."
"I suppose once is good enough for me." She grins before quickly hugging me. "Thank you for doing that for me. That was one of my goals before I left."
"Why?" I ask as she grabs my wrist and starts to pull me through the halls.
"Because you see me as your friend, yes?"
That's all I can be for her, sadly. "Yes?"
"Friends don't call each other formally. I know you do it because of your position within the castle and you've been tasked to watch over me, but in situations where it is only us, I don't see why you hold the formality. I'd rather you call me Reila or Rei when we're alone."
