Leaving

Reila is leaving the castle today and will be gone for four months at the least, maybe longer. I hate that she's leaving and that I can't go with her but I am proud that she's going to do what she wants to do. She didn't tell me what exactly she's going to do but she promised to come back as soon as she can and it's good enough for me. I told her repeatedly over the past month that I didn't want her to change her mind on anything she wanted to do with her life just to stay with me. I'm not going anywhere and I'll always be looking forward to her return. She spent a week talking with Zen in his office about her choices and he helped her with whatever he could. She isn't leaving alone though. Unfortunately, Zen has assigned Obi to travel with her. I know he can keep her safe and that he won't try anything since she and I are together but I still don't fully trust him. Reila can handle herself though.

I feel Reila come to stand beside me in the library and wraps her arms around my stomach. I put my arm around her and sigh, asking if she really has to go. She chuckles but nods her head. I hear her remind me that she will return as soon as she's done with whatever it is she's leaving to do. I ask if I can know what it is, but just like every other time I've asked out of curiosity, I'm met with the same answer.

"It's a secret."

"You and your secrets." I sigh.

"Says the man who hid his feelings from me for months." She shoots back with a giggle as she looks up at me.

"Says the woman who did the same thing."

"Are you ready to go Miss Reila?"

Reila sighs and pulls away as we turn to face Obi.

"As I'll ever be, I suppose."

She looks up at me, tells me goodbye and that she loves me, then walks toward Obi. I catch her hand and she turns back with a confused look.

"You've forgotten something."

"I thought I had everything..." She mumbles and I can see her mentally running through a list.

I smile and shake my head as I see Obi behind her mouthing 'kiss him' at the back of her head as he pushes his fingers together. I give him a look asking for privacy and he wiggles his eyebrows and makes an inappropriate body gesture before saluting me and disappears around the corner. I lead her over to the couch and pull her onto my lap once I'm sitting.

"Mitsuhide, I can't stay much longer." She sighs but settles back in my arms anyway.

"I just want to hold you for a few minutes, then I'll sadly let Obi take you away."

"You act like I'm not going to come back." She chuckles as she laces her fingers with mine. "Even when I didn't think I'd ever be able to come back to the castle after the first time, I still came back, didn't I?"

"Well, I really hope that this time you don't come back abused and half-dead. My heart couldn't handle it the first time."

"I don't think it will happen but I can't guarantee that it won't be a possibility."

"Will you promise me something?"

"Depends on what I'm promising."

"Please promise me that you'll be safe and that you will come back to me."

"I promise." She smiles and lifts her free hand, sticking out her pinky.

I shake my head and watch as she releases my hand and grabs my wrist then starts to shake it to get me to do it as well. Our pinky fingers interlock and her smile brightens.

"Unbreakable now." She hums softly.

I gently cup her cheek and pull her into a kiss. I've only gotten to be with her for a month and I'm going to miss being able to hold her the whole time she's gone. She shifts slightly and I feel her hands drifting into my hair as she deepens the kiss. I don't want to let her go and I don't want this moment to end but I know she needs to leave soon. I reluctantly break the kiss but she presses a lingering kiss to my lips before slowly pulling away.

"You're making me not want to leave now." She whines softly as she rests her forehead against mine.

"Trust me, I don't want you to go either but you need to follow your dream, whatever it is since you won't tell me."

"Thank you for letting me do this."

"All I've ever wanted is for you to be happy no matter what."

"Just being around you has always made me happy. Let's see what this adventure brings me."

"Miss Reila, I hate to pull you away from your intimate moment, but it's time."

"I'll be right there." She sighs.

Her gaze moves back to me before she kisses me again, a short peck but it's still enough to send that sparking feeling through my body.

"I love you Mitsuhide. I'll miss you but I will be counting the days until I'm in your arms again."

"I love you too Reila. Please be safe." I kiss her forehead before letting her stand.

I watch from the window in Zen's office as Reila and Obi ride off on a horse toward whatever destination they're set on. I really wish I knew what was going to happen while they're gone. I pray that she will be happy with what she is setting out to do and that the days and nights pass quickly so I can hold her once again. I'd threatened Obi one last time, telling him to protect her with his life and if she got even one scratch on her, not to come back unless he wanted his head ripped off. His response was to smirk and hug Reila while cheerily telling me he wouldn't let his precious Miss get harmed in any way.

"Reila is going to be fine. She'll be back before you know it."

"You wouldn't think that if it were Shirayuki going off for several months with Obi and you had no idea what they were doing." I huff as I turn away. They're out of sight now.

"No, but I trust Shirayuki to know that she would be alright and would come back safely."

"I hate that I didn't get to be with her for very long before she had to leave." I sigh and lean back against the wall near Zen's desk.

"You would have had plenty of time if you'd told her a long time ago like we suggested."

"Alright Obi." I dodge the pen tossed at me and smirk.
