It's been three days since Reila returned to the castle and despite her being sick and her future hanging in the air, it's been hilarious. She's been wanting to run around and hang out with everyone or even to go to the library, but Shirayuki put her on strict bed rest. I've spent the daytime and most of the evenings in her room, sitting in a chair as she reluctantly rested. There were several times where I had to step out for a moment and when I'd return, I'd have to force her to go back to bed because she would be trying to sneak out, her blankets wrapped around her. Obi has returned to his antics of trying to pressure me into confessing to her but I still haven't done it. It's hard not to, but I keep reminding myself that she is currently ill and she has been through a lot. I don't want to burden her right now. Besides, there's no telling what she will choose to do or where she wants to go once she's better. There's nothing keeping her here after all.
I open one eye and sigh as I catch the blanket walking past me. I hear a whined complaint from the depths of the blankets before it retreats back to the bed. As it flops over onto the bed, Reila's face appears with a pout directed at me. She pretended to be asleep in hopes that I would fall asleep as well. I decided to play along and see what happened. It didn't take long for her to try to sneak out. I offer her a smug smile as she huffs, her pout turning into a scowl.
"Why do you hate me?" She whines.
"I don't hate you Miss Reila, but you have to rest or you won't get better. If you get worse, we will have to move you to the pharmacy to be watched over by Garak."
She shakes her head rapidly. I'd learned that during her previous stay, she'd encountered Garak a time or two and she held a slight fear of the woman. I'm not sure why though.
"Then you have to stay here, Miss."
She buries her face and I hear another huff before a knock sounds on the door. Zen had arranged for a maid to bring her meals before her medicine times so she's able to take everything when she's supposed to. I get up and thank the woman for the food before bringing it back to Reila. She peeks her head out again before deciding to sit up to eat.
Reila fell asleep shortly after taking her medicine so after I moved her to a more comfortable position, I straightened her blankets. Even though things are different now, I still enjoy the peace that comes from being around her. It's a welcome break from Zen and Obi, since Zen had started to push me as well. The door slowly opens and I turn to find Obi staring at me. I motion for him to leave but he smirks and gestures for me to come with him. I cast a look back to Reila before sighing and getting to my feet. Once we're out of her room I ask what he wants.
"If you're going to ask if I told her, the answer is no and if you ask again I will shove you out a window again."
"Why haven't you told her?"
I shoot him a look and he shrugs, telling me it's not the same question.
"I've already told you why at least five times now."
"But think about it, if you tell her, she will have a reason to stay."
"I don't want to stop her from doing whatever she wants to do with her life. Her parents did that for her and now she is finally free."
Before he can annoy me further, an out of breath Shirayuki rounds the corner.
"Where's Reila?"
"She's asleep, why?" I ask, taking a step back toward the door.
"We have a visitor to Wistal Castle... Lord Canswen."
"What? Why?"
She shakes her head. "I don't know. He's here to see Prince Izana, that's all Zen was able to find out. He will be here for two weeks."
"Does Izana know she is here?" Obi asks, his gaze looking from her toward the door.
"We aren't sure, but I'm not sure what will happen if her father finds out."
"No one mentions this to her or around her." I tell them firmly. "She doesn't need to stress over it or do anything reckless. She'll be on bed rest for the rest of the week until you release her. After that, we will do what we can to keep her hidden."
My eyes widen as the door gently hits my back and I turn to find her staring up at me in disappointment before seeming to notice the other two. She sighs and shuts the door and I hear her muffled whine a moment later. I shake my head and realize that her desire to move around is going to make this even harder. Obi asks what that was about and I tell him of her antics, making him laugh.
"You realize that makes this whole keeping her hidden thing a lot harder." I whisper.
"You watch her as you normally do, I'll camp out here overnight. That should be enough to take care of it."
I thank Shirayuki for letting us know and I repeat to Obi after she leaves that it's not his business if or when I decide to tell Reila. I take a calming breath and hope that Reila hadn't heard our conversation before her escape attempt. I feel that if she did she wouldn't have opened the door but there's no knowing for sure. I curse as I open the door to find the room empty and the window cracked open.
"Obi! We have a problem."
