I've been in this chair for what feels like weeks now, staring at the door. I feel like I'm barely breathing. Obi is pacing the floor between me and the door as we wait for it to open. Reila's survival is in the hands of Tave, one of the creeps who tried to take her away from me. If what he told Obi was wrong, there won't be much time to do anything else for her. The door opens and I immediately stand and shove Obi out of the way as I look to Ryuu for answers, a sign, anything.
"Is she-?"
"She's resting. We were able to compare the poison to Strychnine as the man said and it matched. Shirayuki was able to make the antidote and it has been administered. We have monitored her and her condition is improving drastically so we believe she will make a full recovery."
"Can I see her?"
"Yes."
I thank him as I pass by and immediately go to her bedside.
Reila's face is pale and her breathing is a bit labored as if she's exhausted but she's asleep. There are red marks on her wrists that Shirayuki explains is from the restraints they had to use to keep her in the bed because of the poison's effect. I look up at the redhead as she tends to her and I quietly ask if she really is going to be okay. It's not that I don't trust Ryuu but I need to hear it again because seeing her didn't make me feel any better.
"Reila will be fine. She's going to be sore from the strain on her muscles and may not be able to walk properly for a few days but she will recover. Her lungs sound better as well from her previous illness so I think four more days of her medicine and that will be gone as well." She stops beside me as she starts to leave and looks back at Reila. "She's lucky that she has you to watch over her. She cares a lot about you. The whole time you were gone she asked where you were and if you were okay despite the pain she was in."
"How did you know you were in love with Prince Zen?" I ask and her body tenses. I imagine her face is red but my gaze is only on Reila.
"When I knew that whatever happened in my life and where it took me, it only mattered that Zen was in my life. I don't think that really matters though, I think you already knew your own answer before you asked."
My eyes snap open as the sound of sniffling reaches my ears. It had been quiet for so long that I must have dozed off. Reila is whimpering in pain and trying to wipe away the few tears that have escaped. I ask what's wrong and she jumps slightly before gasping at the movement.
"Everything... hurts."
"Let me get one of the herbalists, okay? I'll be right back."
"Please don't leave me."
"I'll be right in the doorway, I promise. I won't leave your line of sight, Miss."
Ryuu is the only one in the pharmacy when I open the door and I tell him that she's awake and in a lot of pain, so he grabs a small vial and a syringe before following me back in.
"Hello Miss Canswen. Besides the pain, how are you feeling?" He asks as he readies the shot for her.
"Exhausted."
"You will feel fatigued for a while due to the poison's effect on your muscles but it will ease in time. Walking or moving your arms will be painful and a struggle so you will need help for a few days as you move around."
"When will I-" She pauses as another whimper escapes. "-be able to leave?"
"We will keep you for observation until tomorrow evening. If all goes well, you can return to the castle but you will need to limit your movements and activity for a while until your body recovers."
"Thank you for saving me." She mumbles as her body starts to slowly relax. "I would like to thank everyone else too."
"It's our job, no need to thank us. Besides, Mitsuhide and Obi were the ones who identified the poison. It's a very rare plant found on Tanbarun's far borders so we didn't consider it. I will be here all night so let me know if you need anything else."
Her eyes track the boy as he leaves before focusing on me. Her bright blue eyes are scanning my face and hands as if looking for injuries. Her eyes narrow a few times before she finally speaks.
"Are you okay?"
I chuckle and shake my head. "You're in a bed after being kidnapped and poisoned while sick with pneumonia... and you ask if I'm alright? You really are something else."
"Your knuckles are bruised and you have a bruise on your cheek."
The bruise on my cheek came from when Obi shoved me in the cell. The knuckles came from asking Tiren about the poison.
"Just bruises." I mumble, avoiding her gaze.
She was annoyed that Obi and I fought each other, I don't think she'd approve of us going into the holding cells to torture answers out of the men, especially after she stopped me from stabbing Tiren earlier.
"How did you and Obi figure it out?"
"I-" I'm not sure what to say.
"Mitsuhide could've made an amazing criminal in another life." I tense as Obi's voice comes from behind me. "Such a sadistic streak that I didn't know he had in him. Reminds me of me back in my glory days."
"Shut up Obi." I hiss, elbowing him as he comes to stand beside me.
"Mitsuhide, what did you do?" She asks and I notice that her eyes are starting to glaze over a little from the effects of the painkillers.
"I asked the twins what the poison was." I answer vaguely as I offer her a thin smile. She shoots me an unconvinced glare.
"Oh come on, just tell her the truth. She's bound to find out anyway." Obi sighs as he sprawls out on the next bed. "How are you feeling Miss?"
"I can't move but whatever Ryuu gave me is nice. I don't hurt. I agree with Obi though, you should tell me the truth."
