Reila's question caught me off guard completely. I never thought she'd think that, especially since Obi has been nonstop about that himself. I clear my throat and look away before assuring her that it's not what I was thinking about. She looks almost disappointed at my answer but smiles as she sticks the last crown on her head. She settles back down beside me and stares at me in hopes that I will suddenly tell her what I was thinking of. Sadly, I can't think of anything to cover myself and I definitely can't just tell her what I was thinking of. That would go over beautifully. Oh, nothing, just how when you fell asleep the other day I brought you to your room and kissed you. That has to count as some form of assault. I'm not even supposed to get close to her like that. She's considered a Lady since she's Lord Canswen's daughter. She's a guest of the castle, of both princes, and I'm the second prince's attendant. That's definitely not something that I was supposed to do. I can't slip up like that again. I blame Obi...
"Earth to Mitsuhide?"
"Sorry Miss, I'm just-"
"There you two are." For once, I'm happy that Obi is here. "Nice headgear Mitsuhide."
"I got bored and started to stack the crowns as I made them." Reila chuckles before offering one to Obi.
"I was looking for you Miss Reila. I was hoping that you'd be willing to take a walk with me."
She and I both shoot him mistrusting looks.
"This isn't going to end up as a retaliation against me for stringing you up from the tree, is it?"
"I wouldn't dream of it, Miss Reila." He extends his hand toward her and she looks over at me as if asking for permission. I nod hesitantly and she takes his hand.
"I'll find you later, Mitsuhide. Remember, don't think too hard." She smiles over her shoulder at me as Obi leads her away.
It's been an hour since Obi led her away and I've been worried nonstop about what he may say or do. I couldn't exactly distract myself because no one else is around besides the guards. I stop pacing as I hear a squeal followed by laughter coming from the gardens. She isn't hurt, that much I know for sure but I'm still concerned. I make my way into the gardens and find Reila walking the edge of the fountain as she talks to Obi, his hand on her forearm to keep her from falling in. I can still see the fading bruise on her forearm where she'd blocked his kick. I still don't forgive him for hurting her, though it was unintentional. I can't hear what they're talking about but she looks to be enjoying herself. As happy as I want to be about that, I feel a pang of something in my chest and it's not pleasant. It gets worse when I look at Obi and his hand on her. He grabs her waist as he helps her down and that feeling in my chest gets even worse. I don't like it. Apparently the feeling doesn't like it when Obi touches her either.
Obi looks up and notices me, his eyes narrowing as a smug smirk crosses his face. He puts his arm around her shoulder to lead her away but I grin as she subtly maneuvers out of it and instead threads her arm with his. The feeling isn't as strong now. Reila stops suddenly and asks him something. His gaze turns toward the sun before answering her. I can tell she's apologizing to him but I don't know what it's for. Obi smiles at her before kissing her hand and lets her go. She heads back toward the castle and he turns back to me once she's out of sight.
"And I thought I had a habit of spying." He jokes as he approaches me. "Did you enjoy the show?"
"What's your game with her?"
"Why, whatever do you mean?" He feigns innocence but I can see the look in his eyes.
"You've been on me nonstop about these feelings for her that you're convinced I have, but I also see you putting your arm around her and touching her, flirting even. So what is it? Whatever game your playing you shouldn't be dragging Reila into it. She has enough going on as it is."
"I have no game, Mitsuhide." He retorts with a challenging smirk. "I told you flat out, if you didn't realize your feelings or you didn't want her, I would likely woo her for myself. You haven't admitted your feelings or made a move, so I'm making mine."
Without thinking, I punch him. He slowly straightens and pops his jaw back into place as he fixes me with a glare. Obi chuckles harshly as he cracks his knuckles.
"Did I get your attention now, Mitsuhide?" He tilts his head slightly. He's falling into his predatory aura but it doesn't scare me. "Tell me, if you don't have feelings for her, why are you mad? Is it because it's me? Is it because you see her as a toy and I'm trying to take her away from you? Or are you lying to me just as much as you're lying to yourself and you do like her?"
My hands are shaking and it's taking all of my restraint not to attack him again.
"Shut up."
"What was that? I don't think I heard you. That didn't sound like an answer though. I wonder what I should do for my next date with Miss Reila. I may even try to kiss more than just her hand next time."
I tackle Obi to the ground and swing at him as he starts to laugh and dodge my attacks.
"Keep it up Mitsuhide, you're doing great!" He croons with a wild grin. "Now come on, tell me, why are you attacking me?"
"Because you put your filthy hands on her!" I growl.
"And why do you care?"
My fist pauses just above his face. "...Because-"
