Being on board the Enterprise meant you could go anywhere you pleased, and going there was through the elevators. In your opinion, the elevator was uncomfortable, but that was only when you were with someone. That's why the stairs were much better. You knew what Spock and Uhura would occasionally do on these elevators, and thinking about it made you even more uncomfortable.
"I'm gonna need you to give these reports to a couple of people, their names on are written on these files." Lieutenant Uhura ordered you one day. You sighed, grabbing them and with small nod, you walked off to the elevator. It hissed open, and you stepped in, happy that no one else was in it with you. The doors closed as you took off. You began tapping your foot in a rhythmic manner, while casually looking through the names.
"Scotty, McCoy, Sulu, and Kirk." You stated, and your name froze on the last name. Captain Kirk. The story of his one-night stand with a Bajoran seemed to sweep through the Enterprise, but it had slowly started to die out now. Everyone seemed to have forgotten it, except for you. You were a bit disturbed, since Uhura had told you one day during lunch, and you had lost your appetite. It wasn't that you didn't like the Captain, no not at all. It was because you simply refused to believe why someone would choose to sleep with someone for one night and then pretend like nothing happened the next day. The elevator was still going up, as your foot chose a different rhythm to tap in. After about a couple seconds, the doors hissed open, and in stepped James Tiberius Kirk. His hair was a bit of a mess, and his entire demeanor looked as if he was tired. You straightened your posture, and held the files close to your chest, staring straight ahead. The Captain looked at you for a solid minute, before fixing his gaze onto the files.
"That's.. my name." He said between breaths,
"Oh, right." You responded, quickly handing him the file, as he smiled.
"Never seen you on these elevators in a long time." He stated, his eyes were cast onto the papers in his hands, and he looked up at you. Your eyes immediately turned from him to the doors of the elevator,
"I found this way to be much quicker." You said, your own breathing quickening. Your anxiety seemed to emerge out of nowhere, and you felt like you were going to pass out. Just then, the elevator seemed to stop in position, and Kirk groaned pulling out his communicator,
"Scotty?" He asked,
"Yes Captain?" Scotty's muffled voice spoke,
"The elevator is stuck..." Kirk responded and you slowly sat down on the floor, curling up into a little ball.
"Alright, I'll fix it!" Scotty said, and Kirk sat down as well, opposite of you. He stared at your scared figure and chuckled a bit,
"You might not want to sit near there, I heard Uhura left some kind of substance there, it was a bit sticky." Kirk said, smirking. You jumped into the air, and Kirk began laughing, gesturing you to sit next to him. You glared at the Captain as you made your way next to him.
"How come elevators scare you?" He asked,
"They don't scare me, I just feel highly uncomfortable in them." You responded. He nodded, trying to process the information.
"So are you uncomfortable with me being here?" He asked,
"Highly." You replied, and you ignored the shocked expression on his face.
"Alright, I understand... " He responded. The next few minutes were engulfed by a loud silence, as the two of you ignored the other, and started fumbling with random things you could find. For you, it was the edge of your very short dress, provided by some weird designer, and you tried your best to bring it down. Kirk looked down at the edge of the dress and the back up to you, and you looked at him, before the both of you turned away from each other. The awkward silence continued, before Kirk broke it by whistling a tune.
"Captain!" Scotty's voice cried through the communicator. "Captain! I've fixed the elevator, just press in the button and it shall start working."
"Thanks, Scotty." Kirk grinned, before getting up and punching in a number. He stuck out his hand for you to grab, hoisting you up.
You both waited for the doors to open, to hear the familiar hiss, to part ways and never see each other again. Oh wait, the last one was actually you. You waited to part ways...
"Stop trying to fix that dress." Kirk snapped, and you released your hand from the edge, staring at his annoyed expression,
"I'm uncomfortable in this dress." You muttered.
"It looks good on you." He said, and at once the doors opened, only to reveal Uhura and Spock. Kirk smirked at the two, before walking out,
"Try not to mess up the elevator too much, I don't want to make more people clean up after you guys." He yelled out to them, and Spock tilted his head, trying to comprehend the message. You sighed, stepping out, and going over to finish your own job, before getting interrupted by Kirk.
"I'd like to spend more time with you, Ms. (L/N)." He said, "So let's say tomorrow, same time, same elevator." You stood there, your cheeks flushing as Kirk walked past you brushing his hand over the edge of your dress.
"Elevators." You grumbled.
