Chapter Eleven

Some say shopping cures depression. I hope it cures anxiety too because I'm starting to fear my death. Today, I'm going on a shopping spree.

Isn't it every woman's dream to go shopping without looking and checking the price tag? That is exactly what we are doing today.

I dug through the deepest part of my wardrobe and found a faux fur coat with leopard print. I'm going to dress like a rich lady. I pick out the richest-looking sunglasses that I owned, water Bean and stride out of my loft.

The mall is too far away from my loft to walk. I decided to hail a cab instead. We are going all fancy today. After about twenty minutes, I got dropped off at the entrance of the mall. It's been a while since I went shopping. I almost forgot what the mall looks like.

The mall isn't crowded. It's like 10am on a workday. But everybody who is in the mall is staring at me when I enter. Oh, right. Because I was being extra and wore my fur coat. Oh well. Haters are going to hate.

Since it was the festive season, a lot of stores were on sales. Perfect time to get some Christmas shopping done as well. I really would love to go big for this Christmas. If I'm still here on Christmas.

Let's focus. I have six people to buy Christmas presents for. Mum, Mandy, Callie, Newton, Jonathan and my best friend, Katie. Oh, I should probably get for Alex too. Katie's fiancé.

First stop: mum's present. Mum loves cooking. She owns the kitchen like a queen. I went to a store that provides kitchen renovation services. I signed for the kitchen remodel package that suits mum best and paid the full price. The guy looked pretty shock that I denied instalments. I mean, I would but I don't think I can pay for the entire year.

Second stop: Mandy's present. Mandy is pretty busy with two young children and hasn't had much time to herself. She probably hasn't shopped for herself in years. I went into a female clothing store and pick out a few nice pieces. I bet she'll look great. I really hope she does make more time for herself and go out into the dating world again in the future. How I wish I could help her then.

Third stop: Callie, Newton and Jonathan. Yes, I am categorising Jonathan with my niece and nephew because my 32 years old brother is a child. The thing they have in common is superheroes. Jonathan loves Iron Man, Newton loves Captain America and Callie loves Ant-Man because she thinks tiny superheroes are cute. Guess it is a life-sized statue of their favourite superhero delivered to their house on Christmas Day. Oh god, Mandy is so going to kill the already dead me.

Last stop: Katie and Alex. What will a newly married couple need? After some very intensive google research, new couple needs furniture for their new house. Makes sense. I went to a furniture store and got them the biggest screen television. I throw in some bedsheets and candles because Katie loves things like that.

All this shopping has worn me out completely. I hail a cab and went home only to realise that I didn't buy anything for myself. It's fine though. Splurging on my family is the best gift I can get for myself.
