Chapter Twelve

Spending the whole day helping and giving to the economy yesterday, it's only right to continue the spirit of giving. Today, I am going to volunteer myself at a soup kitchen.

I volunteered at the soup kitchen a few times previously. Ever since I got busy, I stopped going. Apart from all the Christmas shopping yesterday, I also got two hundred thick blankets for the homeless. The weather is getting colder and I figured it's a nice thing to do.

Trying to pack two hundred blankets is not easy. After I'm done, I was covered in sweat.

"Oh god, Bean, that was surprisingly super tiring."

"..."

I hold Bean up and notice that leaves are sprouting.

"You're looking healthier each day, Bean. At least one of us is."

"..."

I watered Bean, carried the bags of blankets and left. A fifteen minutes walk feels like a fifteen hours walk because of all the bags I am carrying. Once again, I'm drenched in sweat.

"Come on, I barely did anything! I literally just reached!"

"Need some help there?"

I turned around surprised. The in-charge of the soup kitchen, Ken, stood there.

"Hey, Ken! And yes, oh god, please."

"Wow, this is amazing. Thanks for the blankets. People are really going to be thankful for you."

"Oh please, it's really nothing. What you're doing is way more amazing."

Ken took half of my load and walked me in. The things to do were simple. We cooked, cleaned and pack the food in containers. I took the initiative to put one blanket into each care bags. The care bags contain food, water, a thermal bottle, a bar of soap, a thick sweater and my blanket.

Each volunteer took fifteen care bags and we go on separate ways to give out the care bags to people who needs it. The smile on their faces when they see what's inside the care bags warms my heart.

I should really count my blessings. I still have time.
