Chapter Thirteen
It's time I stop being a good daughter. I'm going to do something my Asian mum will probably go crazy or disown me. Today, I'm going to dye my hair hot pink.
Not going to lie, this is thus far the craziest thing I convince myself to do in the list. I'm going to end up looking like an anime character. Oh god. There's still time to run.
Or maybe not. Aunty Lucy, my hairdresser, and also my mum's best friend, wrapped me up in a towel. And then goes the cape gown hairdresser use. Before I know it, Aunty Lucy is already mixing the dye.
"Very daring of you! Hot pink? You will look like a cartoon character!"
"I think you meant an anime character. But please don't tell my mum, Aunty Lucy."
"If she sees it, she's going to faint!"
"Oh boy, I hope not."
I love getting my hair done with Aunty Lucy. Not only does she gives me discounts, but she also brings the hottest gossip to the table. As hot as the hot pink colour my hair's going to be in a few hours. Your typical kind of salon gossips.
"So Aunty, what's the latest gossip around the neighbourhood?"
"Oooo! Did you know the man down the street who lives with his cats recently got a dog?"
See what I mean?
"What!? A dog? No way! What a travesty! What is going to happen to all 8 of his cats!? Oh, dear!"
"Exactly! What if the dog eats the cats? The cats will not be able to fight against the big dog and die!"
"Wait... No no, oh god. Aunty, dogs don't eat cats."
"You wouldn't know!"
We continue laughing and gossiping until my hair is done. Aunty Lucy finished up and even gave me a free perm. I admire myself in the mirror. Wavy hot pink hair. I can live with that.
"I hope your hair adds colours to your life!"
I smiled.
"I hope so too."
I do hope my mum won't kill me. I mean, at least I'm not getting a tattoo. That will be a whole lot worse.
