Chapter 2
Jayden
Jayden spent about half an hour looking for the class and by the time he found it, Mr Austin, the chemistry teacher, had already started on his lesson. He knocked on the door and waited for the teacher to acknowledge him.
"Late on your first day of school are we Mr Thron?" Mr Austin's baby blue eyes bore into his chocolate brown ones.
"I had a hard time finding the classroom sir." Jayden replied, looking on the floor breaking eye contact.
"Yes, I can see that." He narrowed his eyes at him. "By the way class, this is Jayden Thron. He's from California and he will be with us for chemistry lessons from now on."
The class clapped to welcome him and he bowed slighty. As he straighten up, he spotted Taylor at the back of the class. She gave him a little wave and he replied it with a slight smile.
"Have a seat Mr Thron." Mr Austin motioned to the class.
Jayden took the seat nearest to the window at the back of the class. That place would be perfect for him. Only that its Taylor who is sitting beside him.
"Now, let's continue with..." Jayden tuned Mr Austin out and looked around the class. Most of them were sleeping, drooling all over the place and some of them are using their phones under the table. Its either Mr Austin is too oblivious of the class's behaviour or he does not care at all.
"Looks like we meet again" Jayden jumped at the voice to find that it was Taylor leaning in and whispering to him. "sooner than expected." she continued, dark eyes shining and gave him a sweet smile. Jayden can't help but think that she was cute. Really cute.
"Yeah, I guess so." Jayden replied, then diverted his gaze to his notes, trying to concentrate.
"So, you're from California," Taylor persists. "How is it like there?"
"Erm.. Sunny and beachy I guess." Jayden mumbled and started flipping through his notes.
"That answer's quite vague for someone who lived there."
"I don't go out that often." He replied, lowering his head further.
" Miss Simons and Mr Thron! Please do not disrupt the class for the rest of the students!" Mr Austin glared at both of them.
"Sorry sir." Both of them mumbled and with that, both of them remained silent for the rest of the class. To Jayden's relieve.
Half a day passed by hour by hour and pretty soon it was lunch time. The cafeteria looked bigger than the rest of school, tiled with marble tiles all over the place and smell of melted cheese and pizza sauce filled the air.
Jayden got his lunch and settled in a seat furtherest away from the crowd and bit into his pizza. Melted cheese and spicy sauce whet up his appetite as his stomach had been empty since morning.
"Hey loner, mind if I sit here?" Jayden looked up to find Taylor standing by the chair opposite him, tray in hand. She smiled down at him sweetly.
"Don't you have some other friends to sit with?" He said and took another bite from his pizza.
"Nah, plus, you look like you might need some company." She replied and held up her tray, "so can I sit?"
Jayden took another bite from his pizza and chew slowly, buying time. Letting her sit down won't hurt right? He looked around the cafeteria to find that it was now completely packed. Without even thinking, he finds himself nodding his head.
"Thanks!" And with that, she plopped down onto the sit and shoved her spoon into her mashed potato. After two mouth fulls, she procceded with her pizza. She picked off a piece of pepperoni from her pizza and took a huge bite from it. Jayden found himself staring at her eat. She seemed to notice him staring because she swallowed and asked.
"Why are you staring at me like that?"
Jayden quickly shifted to focus on his pizza.
"Its just that you eat like you have never eaten for the first half of your life."
"I'm a growing woman." She said through a mouth full of mashed potato and gravy and winked at him.
Jayden felt warmth creeping up his neck as le lowered his head further and shoved a spoon full of salad into his mouth. He hoped she haven't notice.
"Are you blushing?"
Damn it! She noticed! Taylor lowered her head towards his, looking at his face. Her lips tugged at the edges, threatening to break into a smile.
"No! I don't know!" He took his bag and left the place, bumping into a few people in his hurry to leave.
"Damn it! That was so stupid!" He mentally kicked himself for not only breaking his personal rule as well as acting like a total fool in front of her. He hurried out of the cafeteria and headed for the lockers.
