Chapter 13

Taylor

"Damn it, what to wear?" Taylor had five outfits laid out on her bed and currently, choosing a dress for tonight is one of life's toughtest choices. She sighed and left them lying on her bed and went to brush her hair. As she worked through the tangles, she figured that she should give him something special since this was their first actual date. She set her brush down and began applying some makeup. Something light will do. She thought. She would not want to over do it. So she settled with a bit of eye liner, mascara and decided to leave her lip gloss till before she leave the house. She would not want to smudge it while wearing her dress. Which leads back to the problem at hand. She glanced over at the dresses, sighed and buried her face in her hands.

"Why is this so hard!" She grumbled into her palms. Ever since Jayden asked her out, her heart hadn't stop fluttering and her mind hadn't quieten down one bit. But one thing was clear.

"He finally asked me out!" She squealed to her reflection. She looked at the clock to find that it was two hours before seven. She decided that there was still time to work on her gift to him. Since she doubt she had enough time to run to the gift store which was so far away, she rummaged through her drawer for a piece of paper and fished out her favorite purple pen and began on his gift.

Jayden

"Why is this so hard?" Jayden mumbled to himself as he set out his best outfits in front of him. He didn't want to appear too casual. At last he settled for a button down shirt adn trousers. He combed through his hair one last time and left a sticky note on the kitchen table reminding his dad to heat up his food in the microwave before eating. There's still two hours until seven and Jayden sat by his desk and opened the blue box sitting on his desk to reveal a pretty pendant necklace in the shape of a pair of angel wings. Its outline was studded with crystals and it shone under the light of his desk lamp. This was the first gift he ever bought for a girl. He seen it glowing behind the display window of a gift shop on his way back home and thought that it was the perfect gift for Taylor on their first official date. As he bought the necklace, he had pictured Taylor wearing it and thought that it would look perfect on her with her angelic features. Beautiful, he thought, was the only word to describe her.

As he stared at it in his room just less than two hours away from seeing her again, he suddenly felt nervous. What if she didn't like it? What if she thought that it was cheap and childish? He had imagined helping her put it on for a thousand times since he bought it and he scolded himself for having those thoughts. Taylor isn't that type of girl. She's sweet and kind and cute and Jayden immediately felt ashamed for thinking Taylor as one of those materialistic girls. He took a deep breath and stuffed the box into his pocket and headed out of the house towards Lena's

Jayden stood outside Lena's fifteen minutes earlier and watched as the giant fire ball begin to sink below the horizon. He patted his pocket nervously as he looked around for signs of Taylor. A sudden horrifying thought of Taylor not showing up passed through his mind but he willed it away, scolding himself once more for hacing such negative thoughts. He looked up from the ground again and caught sight of Taylor at the other end of the road. She's wearing a white dress and grey ballet flats and thought that she looked even more beautiful than the last he saw her. He saw her wave at him and he gave a little wave back. He felt his heart pick up pace as he waited for her to cross over, thinking that in just a few minutes, he would be able to hold her hand again and help her wear that necklace he bought.

He stood there waiting as "Taylor waited for the traffic to clear. As she was crossing over, she rummaged her hand bag for something, not paying attention to the road. Jayden was about to shout at her to pay attention to the road when a white van drove, no, sped towards Taylor. Neither of them had the time to react when the vehicle hit her, sending her rolling over the roof of the vehicle and landed back on the road like a rag doll. The vehicle continued to speed away, leaving Jayden rushing towards her on first impulse. He knelt down beside her as he watched blood pooling underneath her.
