The elevator stops and the doors open. I get out, followed by Illumi, and we both go our seperate ways.
We are in a huge room, clearly underground by the cave-like features seen on the walls and the ceiling. Opposite from the elevator is a lang path, leading deeper and deeper in -what seems like- the cave, or leads out of it. A bunch of people have already gathered in the room to participate in the exam.
Out of all I recognise a white-haired boy. His hair is messy and his blue eyes watch every moment of the people around him. He is 158 centimetres tall, just a bit smaller than me. He wears easy, baggy clotes and holds a skateboard in his right hand. His entire body language tells me that he does not think highly of this exam.
But I guess that's how I've always known my little brother. Killua has always been someone with a high attitude, especially towards things like this. He knows he should be able to succeed in this exam, and this sometimes makes him underestimate risks. I am sure he would even underestimate me in this situation and I am sure to make use of this.
I walk over to him and raise me hand. "Uh... Hey, I don't know anybody here so decided to make some friends before the exam starts," I say. Assassins should always be prepared for all situations and therefor able to act. I should just sound cheery and open, without giving anything away.
"Yo," he just responds.
"My name is Myne," I introduce myself, though with a fake name. "It is nice meeting you."
"My name is Killua." He holds out his hand for me to shake.
I shake his hand, this is way too easy. He underestimates everything again, just because he is a Zoldyck. We are sure to give him a good scare.
"Why do you want to make friends so bad?" he asks, looking at me with a tilted head.
"Won't we be more likely to make it through the exam together instead of alone?" I reply, folding my hands together behind my back.
I hate having to act nice and cheery, it drains my energy. But Illumi will be watching me and tell on father the moment I mess up. I am not afraid of my twin brother but the head of the Zoldyck family is something else.
"You could be right." He shrugs. "Though you could also keep me back, you don't seem like the fittest in here."
I take a deep breath before responding. The moment I will be able to talk to him in my own appearance, he will get it. "I won't hold you back, I'm certain of it!"
"Alright, we'll see."
I decide not to respond on it. I do not want to be bugged by this little brat anymore than he has already done.
Suddenly I hear a 'ping'-sound and the door of the elevator opens again. Three males walk.
The first one is very tall and slender, he must be almost two metres long. I expect he has just reached adulthood. He is wearing a suit with tie and glasses make him look even more smart. His hair is short and points upwards. He holds a smart suitcase and seems anxious as he walks into the room.
The second is a much smaller boy and he definitely looks younger too. He must be around Killua's age, that would mean around the twelve years old. He is just a bit taller than one and a half metre and his black with green hair points upwards. It looks a bit like the hair style of the tall man, but longer. He has huge brown eyes and gazes around the room in excitement. He radiates enthousiasm and excitement. His green clothes and boots fit perfectly with his hair and give him an even more enthousiastic expression.
The last one is a boy which I estimate around my age, perhaps a year older, which would mean he is sixteen or seventeen year old. His length is in between the previous two boys, I estimate it around 175 centimetres. He has blonde hair and his is the only haircut which seems to obey the rules of gravity. His hair is longer than the average boy's hair. He has brown eyes and a somehow pale skin. He is wearing a kimono and looks around the room, he seems to be taking in the chance of getting through this group. His look is the only of these three boys which I can appreciate since he seems to be thinking about his chances rather than being taken over by emotion.
"Hey, pinky, what are you staring at?"
I look down at Killua. "Could you please call me by name and I was not staring. Just seeing who joins the group." I huff and look away from the white-haired boy.
"You may not be as much as a burden as I expected you to be," he laughs.
I look away from him as a ticking mark starts to form on my forehead, which somehow amuses him even more. Not having to watch my emotions for once isn't that bad. It actually feels like a relief, though at the same time it is scary. I should respond like a normal person and therefor allow emotions, but emotions are a weakness. I do not want to seem weak.
I decide to see what Illumi is up to and I find his huge appearance next to another man.
He has the appearance of a court jester. He wears face paint, with a star shape on his right cheek and a tear drop on his left cheek. He has short, red hair which is slicked back. He wears a sleeveless jacket and long pants. Though the most interesting thing about him are his eyes, they have a horrifying thing about them. The adult somehow brings a feeling of discomfort with him.
"Are you also looking at the clown? He's creepy, isn't he? I don't trust his presence here," Killua remarks. He must have noticed me looking at the two. He is sharp as ever, perhaps I was the one underestimating him.
"He certainly drew my attention. I think we should be fine as long as we don't provoke him," I answer.
"That's naive," Killua laughs. "Has no one ever told you to not trust strangers."
"So you do not trust me?"
"You will first have to prove me you're trustworthy, pinky."
"Alright, albino."
And with that I know that the Zoldyck sibling race is back on again.
