there are a number of ways san could have been spending his friday evening, and with chengxiao is definitely not high on that list. the girl is getting too attached to him, and while she's brainstorming their next dinner date, he's brainstorming the quickest way to break it off with her. he doesn't want to hurt her. he just thought they had a mutual understanding, and apparently he was wrong.
so when he hears about kang yeosang's party, it's an offer he simply cannot refuse. he has been dimly aware of the male in question for a time, but has never bothered to converse as their crowds are separate and there has never been a reason to.
but now... it's not only a feasible excuse, but additionally an event he may be inclined to enjoy himself at. really a win-win situation.
"xiao," he rolls onto his side, peering up at the girl on the bed next to him; away from his phone. "there's a party tonight at kang yeosang's place."
"i know," she explains, nuzzling closer to him. "eunha and nancy asked me to go with them but i told them i'd rather spend time with you."
san resists the urge to showcase his annoyance, subtly rolling his eyes. "xiao, we agreed not to make this a habit." he sits up, placing his hands behind himself on the mattress and tipping his head back to stretch his neck.
"so i'm going, because i want to." he tells her, finishing his stretch and eyeing her with a sidelong gaze. "with or without you."
"jeez, okay." she laughs lightly, and san covertly smirks, satisfied at the hurt behind her words. "no need to be a dick."
"there goes a chunk of my personality." he comments, pulling off his top and searching for a more suitable one.
chengxiao scoffs, ignoring him, but he can feel her rapacious eyes burning on his bare back greedily. after all, that's why they're together. she thinks he's hot. it's all he's good for, really. san selects a striped navy button up from his closet, continuing random conversation while he gets dressed.
"do you know if eunha's single?" he drawls, pretending to sound interested as he adjusts the shirt and undoes a few of the top buttons.
chengxiao slides off of the bed, coming up behind him and straightening his collar. "i'm a little offended, san." she tells him off, her fingers lingering on his neck. he resists the urge to flinch away. "and no, she isn't."
"hasn't stopped me before." he shrugs, stepping away from her as he runs a hand through his hair in the mirror, attaining the messy look that was borderline homeless man but somehow sexy on him.
she rolls her eyes, crossing her arms. "true. but eunha's my friend. besides, she's not even that hot."
san can't disagree, but needs to drill the fact he isn't looking for a serious relationship deeper into the girl's head. "to quote margaret hungerford, xiao; beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
"you know, you're kind of a nerd." chengxiao comments, following him as he heads for the door. "but it's hot." this might be hard.

the party is loud, to say the least. lights flash from the ceiling upon the giddy dancers like lightning, bass from the music vibrating through the floor like thunder and into their feet, propelling their erratic movements and infecting their heads like an unstoppable disease.
the virus is welcomed with open arms, teenagers succumbing to the storm willingly, limbs obeying the beat ecstatically. accompanied by the rush of weak alcohol most believe was stronger than reality, they make themselves delirious quickly, happy to be free for a night. drunk on an idea.
