"You ready?" Taylor asks as we enter the loud gymnasium.

"Not at all." I shake my head as I see Josh from afar.

"Well, you're gonna have to be." She says and takes my hand, dragging me with her to find a seat.

"Perfect." She says as she find two seats in the second row of the bleacher.

We take our seats and I cross my legs while examining the court.

"See, this isn't so bad." Taylor grimaces.

"Don't jinx anything." I scoff as I push some hair behind my ear.

I continued to look around and my eyes lock into a pair of dark eyes and I squint my eyes.

Shawn.

He looks confused as first, but then puts on a smile and I wave at him.

He waves back and walks over.

"You came." He says, over the loud cheers.

"Yeah, I did." I nervously laugh as I stand up, walking over to him.

"What made you change your mind?" He asks, fiddling with his necklace.

"Well, I heard you were on the team. And I couldn't miss seeing you play." I grin at him.

"Wow, can't believe you came all this way for me." He fake gasps as he puts a hand over his heart.

"Shut up." I laugh, pushing his arm and he laughs, giving me puppy dog eyes.

We both let out another laugh and I see Josh talking to one of his teammates.

I couldn't help but stare a little longer, admiring his smile and that twinkle in his eyes.

He turns his head and his smile drops as he locks eyes with me.

I blankly stare at him and then turn back to Shawn.

"C'mon guys!" I hear a guy yell, with a whistle around his neck.

"You better go. Don't wanna have distractions." I say and he chuckles.

"You are far from a distraction." He says and I crack a tiny grin.

"Go. Win this game. You're gonna do great." I grimace, patting his broad shoulder.

"See you after?"

"Maybe. Only if you make a half court shot." I challenge and he laughs.

"Deal." He says and jogs off, getting in a huddle with his team.

I turn back and see Josh still glaring at me.

I shrug at him and walk back to my seat.

"Josh doesn't look too happy." Taylor cringes.

"What makes you think that?" I ask, crossing my legs.

"Considering he wants to murder Shawn with that basketball any second now." She states and I give her a look.

"Lucky guess?" She nervously shrugs and I chuckle at her.

"Well he shouldn't be mad. We're not dating. And, he can't control who I talk or hangout with." I simply say and Taylor nods.

I then hear a whistle being blown and the game starts.

Of course, Josh and Shawn are on opposite teams.

Josh has already made a shot and I couldn't help but clap.

Just because we aren't talking, doesn't mean I can't be proud of him if he wins the game.

The whistle is blown as Josh scores his team another four points.

"C'mon Lucas!" I hear Taylor screech as he jumps up and dunks the ball into the net.

"Yes! That's my man, right there!" She screeches and I couldn't help but laugh as she get out of her seat, now standing.

The whistle is blown again and now Shawn has the ball.

"See, this is fun!" Taylor says over the loud cheers of people.

"Yeah, this isn't so bad." I shrug at her and she smiles at me.

"Woo! Let's go!" I shout, clapping my hands and Shawn turns his head, winking at me and I send him a small smile.

He starts dribbling the ball across the court but a boy with jet black hair takes it and then dribbles it back to the opposite half of the court.

He passes it to Josh and he starts dribbling it.

Shawn blocks his way, putting his arms out.

A few second pass, and Josh straight up hits him hard in the face with the basketball.

"Foul!" Someone says and the whistle is blown.

"Hey!" I shout, jumping out of my seat.

"Miss, stay on the bleach-" A referee says but I brush him off as I keep walking.

"You're dead, Mendes!" Josh shouts and full on tackles Shawn, throwing a few punches.

"Josh, stop it!" I yell but he tunes me out, still taking hits at Shawn as he covers his face.

"Hey, Bassett, that's enough!" The coach yells as he tries to pull Josh off Shawn.

"Josh!" I hear a familiar voice say and I look to see Kacey.

He quickly glances at her, then continues taking hits at Shawn.

"Enough!" I screech as I find the strength to finally push him off.

"It's okay, calm down buddy." Red says as him and the coach hold him back.

"Bassett, you're out from the game." Coach says.

"Are you okay?" I ask Shawn, helping him up.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He breathes, touching his lip and his eye.

He notices the blood on his finger and our eyes meet.

"Mendes, take a break. Let's get you cleaned up." Coach says and Shawn nods as a teacher takes him to the nurse.

I glare at Josh and grab Red's arm, dragging him somewhere private.

"What the fuck was he doing?" I exclaim at him.

"My guess is...it was about you. And that words were exchanged." He says.

"Why would they fight over me?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

"C'mon Alexis, are you that oblivious? Josh is fucking in love with you!" He exclaims and my eyes widen.

Am I hearing this correctly?
