Chapter 70
(3 years later)
Alexander's POV

John and I had both graduated early. We still kept in touch with all of our college friends and we had moved into our own apartment. But none of that mattered tonight. Because tonight was the night. I had agreed to go to the beach with John and he was going to do it. I stood about 20 feet away from the shoreline, eyeing in warily, waiting for John. After about 30 minutes of uneasily staring at the ocean I heard my name. I spun around to see John eagerly racing toward me.
"Are those turtles on your swim trunks?" He called.
"Are those flowers on yours?" I called back, he came to a stop in front of me.
"Shut up! I couldn't find my turtle ones." He punched me lightly and I smiled.
"Oops" I smirked, John took my hand in his and began dragging me toward the water.
"C'mon!" He begged and I stopped him just before the water. "Lexi, please." I huffed and reluctantly stepped into the surf. My breath caught in my throat and John entwined his fingers with mine. "It's ok, Lexi."
"Johnny-" John slowly knelt down so that he was on one knee.
"Alexander Hamilton," Tears began I well in my eyes. "You are the light of my life, the reason I wake up in the morning and the reason I can't sleep at night."he chuckled on the last part making me laugh lightly. "So, Alexander, I ask you: will you be my reason to live for the rest of my life?" He dug in the pocket of his trunks and fished out a small, green box. The waves crashed around us and John popped the box open with his thumb to reveal a ring. Not just any ring. A diamond ring. "Will you marry me, Alexander Hamilton?" Tears fell openly down my face and I ran a hand through my hair.
"Fuck!" I muttered, John's face fell.
"What? Is it too soon, am I not-"
"No! Fuck! I was gonna propose to you!" I squeaked, kneeling down next to him in the surf and pulling out a blue box. I popped it open to reveal a similar diamond ring, John caught his breath.
"Well fuck!" He ran a hand through his hair. "I guess were made for each other!" He laughed.
"John Laurens, I was gonna make a speech but we'd be here for 30 years so." John laughed and nodded as if to say 'dah'. "Will you marry me?"
"I asked first!" He snapped jokingly, laughed and took his hand in mine.
"Yes, I will marry you, John Laurens." I smiled. "Will you marry me, Jacky?" John made a face like he was thinking very deeply.
"I'll have to think about it." He smiled, I laughed and stared at him. "Absolutely!" He surged forward and tackled me, throwing us into the surf. Our lips made contact and I didn't care that water was closing in from all sides. All I cared about was John. John gasped and pulled away, pulling me up with him.
"Lex! Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" He squeaked and brushed my now wet hair from my face.
"Jacky! Hey, it's ok!" John paused, I took his hand in mine and I slid the ring on his finger. He stopped fretting over the fact that he had pushed me in the water and slid his ring on my finger. He jumped up and pulled me out of the surf and onto the sand.
"Lexi, I'm so sorry! I got caught up in the moment and I pushed you under the water. I'm sorry." I wrapped him in a hug, I pulled away and tapped the ring on his finger.
"Love you." I smiled, John looked surprised.
"Wait, you still wanna marry me?" He asked in disbelief. John tended to get like this, doubtful. He had spent his entire life being told he was a mistake and the second he messed up he'd think it was true.
"Of course!" I smiled.
