Chapter 40
Alexander's POV

   "You ready?" NO I'M GONNA DROWN. HOW HAVE YOU NOT DROWNED. TODAY'S THE DAY I DIE. NO DO IT. DO IT FOR HIM. DO IT FOR JOHN. I nodded slowly, John linked his arm with mine and took a step forward. The waves started to advance and I tried to run away but John held me in my spot.
   "Hey, it's ok. It's just water." The waves licked at my feet and I whimpered. John pulled me forward into the water, he tried to let go of my arm but I held onto him. He chuckled, we came to stop when I was stomach deep. John noticed my breathing was picking up and he pecked me on the forehead. I relaxed a little and he let go of me. I tried to grab his arm but I slipped and fell under.
   "ALE-" Water closed around me from all sides, I thrashed around. I tried desperately to get my feet back under me, an arm wrapped around me and pulled me up. I broke the surface and grasped for air. John looked at me with wide eyes.
   "Are you alright, no scratches. Maybe we should head back to shore." He started to head in the direction, but I grabbed his arm.
   "No!" I gasped, John nodded slowly.
   "There's a sandbar about five yards that way. Let's go over there."
   "What's a sandbar?"
   "It's like a floor but sand and there's water over it." John explained. I shrugged and we headed in that direction. Slowly the water began to become deep. "Hold on." John swam a couple feet ahead. "Yeah it's kinda deep over here."
   "Teach me." John smiled and swam over. He took my hands in his.
   "Ok, so when you can't touch the bottom anymore make your body horizontal and kick your legs."
    "What if I sink?"
    "Leave that to me." I nodded and we continued. After a moment I couldn't touch the bottom so I did what John said. "There ya go!" He smiled. We made it to the sandbar and I plopped down, water splashing up around me. John swam over and climbed up onto the sandbar. He crawled over and drifted into my lap.
   "Hello!" He smiled, I laughed. "I'm so proud of you!" He pecked me on the lips and stood up. "Watch this!" He turned and dove off the backside of the sandbar. The water engulfed him and I panicked.
   "John!" I stood up and rushed over to the side. John broke the surface and I hauled him up onto the sandbar. "John what the fuck!" John smiles and held out his hand.
   "Got this for you!" He smiled and opened his hand to reveal a white sea shell with a red tint.
   "Woah, its beautiful." I took it and put it in my pockets, praying it would stay there.
   "Just like you." John poked my nose and I laughed. I leaned and brushed his wet hair out of his eyes, I planted a kiss on his lips.
   "Bleh, salty." John laughed and I splashed some water at him. I put my hand in the water and felt something hard. I dug it out of the sand and looked at it in the water, it was a shell just like the one John gave me but with a blue tint. I slipped it into my pocket just as we heard our names.
   "ALEX. JOHN. COME EAT DAMN IT." Peggy called, jumping up and down and waving her arms.
   "C'mon, I'll help you." John took my hands in his and guided me toward the water. John lead me through the water until I could touch the bottom. He swam ahead a little until I'd loose my balance and freak out. He'd come back and hold onto me until I was alright to keep going. We made it ashore I was immediately thankful I was back on land. We sat down by the fire the girls had made as darkness engulfed the sea.
   "Alex what are tho-" Eliza began and John shook his head vigorously. I grabbed a towel and covered my chest, John put his hand on mine. "It's ok Alex we've all got scars from something." Eliza smiled sweetly.
   "Yeah!" Peggy chimed in. "I was trying to show off with a butterfly knife and I sliced my leg open." She pulled up the skirt of her swimsuit to show a long white scar on the side of her thigh.
   "I dropped my curling iron when I was curling my hair one time." Eliza smiled and moved her hair to show a burn mark on the back of her neck.
   "I was skateboarding and I tried to do a trick, I fucking crashed and burned." Angelica showed us a part of her leg. "Road rash."
   "You already know about mine." John smiled.
   "We don't." Peggy pointed out.
   "Here's the dish. I was climbing a tree and I grabbed a branch. It snapped and I fell 2 stories." John shrugged, the sisters looked slightly impressed.
   "So what about your scars Alex?" Peggy asked.
