Chapter 1️⃣

(RM's POV)

~~~1 week later ~~~

I was so worried about school that I couldn't even sleep properly the previous night, and my head was killing me.

I looked at my alarm clock pensively, 10 more minutes were left before it went off. Letting out an exhausted sigh I turned the alarm off and massaged my temples in a poor attempt to get rid of the headache, it didn't work.

Giving up on the pain I quickly finished my morning routine and went downstairs to greet my parents, “Morning Mom, morning Dad.” to which they replied with unusual enthusiasm. Last night I couldn't even eat dinner as my nerves were killing me, so without wasting any time I grabbed the spoon and started shoving the cereal into my mouth.

“Why is he eating like an animal?”

My head jerked up at that and I caught my Mom giving me a weird look. She smiled when she noticed me looking at her.

“He has milk smeared all around his mouth.” her expression changed into one that of adoration as she thought this and I found myself smiling back at her.

If someone had asked me to describe the last three weeks in one word, I would have chosen ‘painful’.

Having to listen to my parent's thoughts, thoughts that were not for me to know, was unbearably painful.

Mom and Dad had started to think that I was weird as I had confined myself in my room to escape invading their privacy. It was all just me trying to protect myself as I knew that some of the thoughts that my parents had could hurt my emotions.

“It's not my fault I'm this way...” I muttered under my breath as I stared at the small amount of cereal left in the bowl. I had lost my appetite, “I'll leave for school now...bye Mom, bye Dad.”

“But you still have 30 minutes left... I can drop you off on my way to work.” Dad suggested when I got up from the chair.

“Yes Sweetie...he can drop you off.”

“I'll be fine Mom...don't worry.”

“How can I not worry about you Namjoon-ah...”

“I will be okay...you don't have to worry. I'll get going then...bye.” mentally hoping that that'd be enough to reassure her, I left my house.

I usually took about 10 minutes to walk to school, but I was intentionally walking slower that day. Most people on the street ignored me, not even glancing in my direction, they were busy thinking about their personal lives.

Those who did acknowledge my existence didn't really have any sugar-coated opinions about me. I knew that most of them didn't like me but having to actually hear their poisonous thoughts was disturbing.

I quickened my pace and about 15 minutes later I was standing in front of my school. When I reached my classroom something on the wall caught my attention. There was  a notice beside the door.

“Why did they have to change the seat plan now?” irritated, I glared at the piece of paper that would surely cause me misery, “Okay... first-row third column...that's not that much of a difference... I used to sit on the first column. What did they even change?” giving the notice one last glare and not caring about who my desk mate was, I entered the classroom.

I was the first one to arrive, “Exactly what I had expected.” I chuckled while putting my bag on the table. As I was the Class President I cleaned the blackboard and when I was done, I went back to my seat. Other students had started entering the class in the meantime.

Without paying any attention to them, I fetched a book out of my bag and started reading it. I had learnt that if my brain was preoccupied I could block others' thoughts, it even felt like I could control this weird ability of mine, and that's what I did. I still had 10 minutes left before the first period.

Halfway through the second chapter of our chemistry book, someone stood beside my table.

“So you are my desk mate for the rest of the year, huh?”
