•Harper's POV•
Right after I sent Jesse and her friends back through the portal to their home world, Ivor burst through that same portal, waving the enchanted flint and steel around in excitement.
"Ivor? Why aren't you back home?" I was sincerely surprised upon his swift comeback.
"For you! I mean for adventure! And I would enjoy your companionship."He had said in a flurry.
I blushed deeply and smiled.
"Of course Ivor! I was kinda dreading the fact that I would have to face the wrath of Crown Mesa so soon."
With that he offered me his arm in a gentlemanly manner and I linked my arm with his. Gradually we walked up to a portal with a birch wood and gold frame, a powder blue swirl of light leading to an unknown world.
"Ladies first." He politely stepped aside for me to pass through the portal. I stepped through it after giving him a side glance, the almost wet and tingling sensation of egress ran straight through my bones. Before I knew it, I had emerged on the other side.
Ivor was right behind me and we both stood in awe, admiring the new world we had stumbled upon.
"What a marvellous display of untouched, and unexplored architecture!" Ivor had said beside me!
•Ivor's POV•
On the horizon lay displays of mountains, waterfalls, trees as far as the eye could see and a dilapidated monument just out of reach. A jungle biome it appears.
A rather exotic coloured parrot flew overhead, squawking as it glided proudly and effortlessly in the fresh breeze.
"Shall we start here then? Seems we are starved for choice as we still have to find the exit portal." I sparked up our conversation.
She gave a curt nod and briskly made her way towards the unknown.
"Be careful Harper, we know not what terrors are hiding in this fantastic abomination of a biome."
"I have yet to see anything dangerous, my dearest Ivor." Harper let that last part slip out, and before she had realised it, she already said it. Her cheeks grew warm and she immediately searched for a loose thread on her clothes to fiddle with.
Ivor didn't seem to mind being called 'dearest,' as he had perked up.
'Dearest you say? What a coincidence for you are what is dearest to me' he thought.
For a rare and fleeting moment, I displayed a smile for her, a genuine one at that. Quite rare.
"Well, dearest Harper, I will still insist for you to be cautious? For me at least?" I pleaded.
She still looked flustered but nodded. We were currently going downhill and I didn't want my companion to get injured. I eyed her movements warily. The rocks on which she was descending on were precarious and brittle. They were begging for an accident to happen.
I looked on in agitation as the crumbly rocks grated and groaned as they gave way under her feet! I reflexively swung my arm out and caught her by her elbow, jerking her back. My reflexes were much too swift for a man my age but I couldn't be more grateful for that, as it just saved her life. I pulled her into the safety of my arms, still shaken by her barely-escaped death. She clutches onto my robes, trembling.
"Ivor!" She screamed in both fear and relief. "Thank you, Ivor! I don't want to know what would have happened if you hadn't been here."
I know the feeling all too well of losing people I keep in close regards to my heart. I don't think I could bare losing another. My days are getting shorter and I do not wish to spend them in mourn.
"I care about you, Harper, I won't let anything happen to you. Besides, you're no good if you're flattened at the base of this death trap this world calls a mountain."
...did I just say that? Aloud? Push me over the edge!
"Awh, Ivor! I care about you too and that was majorly sweet of you to say. I know I've kinda been here and there with my emotions, but I do deeply and sincerely care for you. Maybe more than I should in the space of time we've known each other."
She didn't have to wait for a response because I pulled her face closer to mine, first resting my forehead on hers, loking into her eyes for silent consent before bring our lips to tenderly meet.
I don't know if it's possible that God made it my destiny to meet this woman, but either way, I love her and I will cherish the moments we have together. Now, at least, I know we have something in common! Adventure with a happy ending and romance to spice it up a notch!
But that's a tale for another time, for now, I would like nothing more than to complete this journey with Harper.
"Hehe, ADVENTURE!" I yelled, and it echoed through the canopies, as we hastily scale the rest of the descent.
Well it's not Lukesse but it sure is cute! Hope you liked it!
