•Jesse's POV•
"Run!"
People from all directions shrieked in terror as the humongous black monstrosity wreaked havoc everywhere. Causing destruction with just one sweep of its tractor beam.
The Witherstorm had no mercy as it trapped its victims in its dark violet beams. I had been separated from my friends after Ivor fled his failed creation.
Dodging this way and that, I tried my best to avoid falling debris and missing chunks in the earths surface that had been consumed by the Wither.
A low but raucous bellow that shook the buildings around me came from somewhere behind me. It's ear-splitting cries aroused the citizens fear and created even more chaos.
"Axel! Olivia! Petra? Where are you guys?" I helplessly yelled into the crowd to no avail being drowned out by the scared shouts and shrieks of fleeing people. I continued sprinting when I ran into someone, landing hard on the ground.
I looked up hastily, meeting crystal eyes.
"Lukas!" My worries had slightly alleviated when I helped him up, checking him for any injuries.
"Jesse! I was so worried, holy... if you hadn't come back for me in that basement I... thank you for that, Jesse. I'm glad you're okay." He said as a small yet grateful smile played on his face. Our little reunion had been interrupted by a large charcoal tentacle that crashed a few meters away from us.
"Let's hustle! There's Gabriel - he's leading the others to a safe place where the Storm can't get us." Lukas said, his voice panic-stricken.
I nodded and followed him, rushing to catch up to Gabriel and his frightened entourage.
The enormous entity gave chase, spitting flaming skulls to block our path.
A little fire wasn't going to stop me, though. I leapt and rolled in every direction until finally making it safely into the small obsidian temple hidden by the cover of the forest on the outskirts of town.
Panting and sweating, I rested my hands on my knees trying to catch my breath, looking around for familiar faces.
"Jesse! There you are! We were worried you were caught." Olivia came rushing up to me, trapping me in a comforting embrace. As she pulled away from me, Petra, Axle and Rueben came up behind her.
Lukas had come up a second later, also out of breath.
"Aw man, he's still here? Can't we give him to the Witherstorm as a distraction?" Axel said exasperated.
"I'm right here, Axel!" Lukas shot back.
"Hey, I'm just looking out for my friends." Axel snarkily replied.
"Enough! We've gotta stick together, no matter our differences." I glared at Axel.
He looked at me with dissatisfaction and turned away with an annoyed grunt.
Just then, one of the Witherstorm's many tentacles burst through the entrance, blocking anyone from getting to the portal and claiming the helpless victims that had no escape.
Gabriel and Petra drew their swords, running to the danger and swinging their weapons wildly at the Storm's weak spots. I decided to assist them when a giant tentacle swung for my head.
I dodged and parried the attack, landing a devastating blow on the creature.
"Ha!" I yelled in triumph just as another attack was aimed at me.
In all the strikes, I didn't notice Gabriel being pulled up by the purple beams. I rushed to save my idol after I had noticed when I was stopped by my own purple beam. I was lifted into the air, too, slowly floating closer the the mouth of the storm.
"Ahh, someone help!" I looked to my friends who seemed to not be able to hear me, running through the portal. Only Lukas stood and stared with an open mouth, frozen in place. Petra was occupied, focused on trying to pull Gabriel out of the tractor beam.
By the time she reached me, it was too late, the Wither struck the ceiling separating me and Petra, leaving no path for her to get to me.
"Jesse, no!" Petra cried.
Lukas seemed to snap out of his daze to see me rising to my doom.
"It's okay... get to safety. I'll be fine." I said dejectedly.
Petra gave an understanding nod, turned on her heel and dragged Gabriel through the portal to the Nether.
"Jesse..." Lukas whispered. There was a hint of sorrow in his voice that made me want to hug him and tell him everything will be okay.
"I'll find a way to get you back. I promise!" He yelled as I was lifted out of the building.
And I'll find a way back to you, Lukas.
But if I don't make it back... I love you...
My unspoken words remained unsaid. Maybe it was best he didn't know my true feelings - in case he returned them and with me potentially never seeing him again - would tear him apart and I would be left with the guilt until my last breath. Even if that wasn't so far from becoming true...
No! I will get back to him. I will! That's a promise I'll make to myself and to him. To us.
