•Jesse's POV•
After my happily ever after, I started a new chapter in my life. Lukas had given me the gift I've dreamed of since I was a little girl.
Children.
7 years of marriage and 6 and 5 years of raising my two sons later, we are going on our first trip together as a family.
"Packed up, kiddo?" Lukas said to our oldest son, Sage, loading my last bag into the car.
"Yup! How long is the drive? I wanna be there now!" Sage complained.
"It's a 3 hour drive, but it will be fun! We can play games, sing along to songs, maybe even sleep a little! That's gotta be enough, right?" I chipped in.
Sage had looked slightly annoyed but said nothing. At that moment, Liam scurried out of the house, dragging his suitcase at full speed towards the car. I laughed at his enthusiasm for the trip.
"I've packed all my stuff! I even brought Elijah with me! Look, he's happy to come with!" He cried cheerfully.
Elijah was his stuffed T-rex. It has always been his favourite toy and partner in crime. Maybe more literally than figuratively.
I knelt down to his level and said to him; "I'm sure he is. Now, mischief, hop in the backseat next to your brother. We're leaving." I left him beaming as he hurried to the left side of the car.
*time skip*
Driving for 95 minutes (1hr 35mins) the mood in the car had slightly shifted since we had first started driving. Sage had had a bit of a quarrel with Liam for being 'too loud' and 'annoying.' But little Liam had learned to stand up for himself in saying;
"Well at least I'm not sour about getting out of the house. Who put salt in your cereal anyway?" He had argued in defence.
I had to hide back a snicker. That's my boy.
After another 20 minutes of their bickering, I could see the corners Lukas's mouth turn down slightly in annoyance. No one ever said raising two boys would be easy. And to be perfectly honest, I may love them to the moon and back, but they do get on my nerves!
"Stop taking up all the seat space!" Sage had retorted.
"You have the whole other half of the car! Don't be mean!" Liam retaliated.
"Stop being a baby! You've got your backpack and stupid dinosaur in the middle, it's touching my seat!"
"First, I'm not a baby, second, I don't have cooties so you don't have to whimper like that!"
"You-"
Lukas cut him off; "Would you both knock it off? We're on our way to spend some quality time together and we're not gonna be able to have even that if you don't co-operate! Can you just try to see eye to eye?"
"I have no problem with that, daddy, but I was only standing up for myself. I'm sorry if I caused the trouble?" Liam apologised in the cutest way know to man.
"Yeah yeah sorry, Liam. And sorry mommy and daddy. Can we go back to being a happy family?"
I was gonna say we were never an unhappy family, but I decided to let him be.
*another time skip*
Finally, finally we had arrived. Long Beach Inn.
As I took the boys up to the room, Lukas got the keys from the receptionist.
"Ok, boys, pick your rooms - and no quarrelling!" I had warned.
They both rushed to pick the best rooms and Lukas and I flopped onto the bed in ours.
I rolled onto my side and rested my head on his shoulder, staring up at his face.
"You good?"
He sighed deeply. I could see how tired he was.
"Yeah. Who knew parenting and driving was so difficult?"
"They say girls can multitask for a reason. You should've let me drive."
He angled his head so that he was looking in my eyes. He smiled and leaned in for a small peck.
"Ah, they're just kids, who can blame them?"
"And they're not just any kids, they are our kids and I wouldn't dream of having them with anyone else. I love you" and with that I kissed him again, sweetly.
"I love you too, Jesse. For better or for worse, I will always love you. Just like I said in my vows."
