Jack's POV:
We were walking Vogue through the woods near the house, the path was paved with gravel and outlined with large stones. I held Vogue's leash in one hand and held Kirsty's hand in the other, swinging as we walked step by step in unison. It was a chilly winters morning, but sunny. Rays of golden sunlight beamed down through the gaps in the leaves, the fallen leaves crunched as we stepped on them and the birds chirped happily as we made our way down toward a little field at the end of the trail. Vogue was having fun exploring, me and Kirsty had taken many walks and had picnics her but we hadn't taken Vogue with us yet as it is quite a long walk and she is very little, but today Vogue was very lively and bouncy so we decided she had enough energy to make the walk there at least. We didn't mind if we had to carry her all the way back. We finally made it to the field gate, Vogue sat excitedly wagging her tail as she saw the wide open space for her to run in."Aww look at her, she's ready to go!" Kirsty cooed as she got Vogue's favourite toy ball out of her bag, I opened the gate slowly as Vogue looked at the ball in some sort of trace.
"Ok, go get it!" Kirsty said as she threw the ball out into the field, Vogue ran as fast as her little legs could run. She looked so small, the blades of grass were taller than her but we could see the wiggling fluff ball running towards us with the ball.
"Yay! Good girl, you did it." I cooed, I squatted down and she dropped the ball in my hand. It was a bit wet with slobber and dew but I didn't mind, I threw it again as Vogue jumped into the air and caught it with her mouth before it even hit the grass.
"She's so fast!" Kirsty said, we were proud of our baby doggy. We sat down on a bench as we watch Vogue play in the grass, she looked so funny just wiggling around and jumping up to try and find us.
"Aww, she's so cute." I cooed, I was definitely getting puppy fever. I wanted ten Vogues in my life, but Vogue was enough for us. Vogue disappeared in the grass for a minute.
"Voguey!" Kirsty called out, I saw something move in the grass but suddenly stopped.
"Is that her? Vogue!" I called out, standing up from the bench. I walked closer towards the something in the grass, I saw the sandy golden colour of her fur.
"She's right there!"I called back to Kirsty, however I heard little puppy whimpers in front of me. I went even closer to investigate, why was she whimpering? As I got closer I saw a tangled up ball of barbed wire, and Vogue was sat right next to it with one of her front paws covered in blood!
"Kirsty, come here quick!" I shouted as I squatted down to the puppy, she was shaking with fear and was trying to stand up but she kept falling over as soon as she puts weight on her injured paw.
"I'm coming, what's wrong?" Kirsty asked as she ran down towards us. I gently moved Vogue into my arms and lifted up her paw, she flinched and almost tried to bite me.
"Sh-sh-sh, I'm sorry puppy. I know it hurts, Sweetheart." I whispered softly as I stroked her head, she calmed down a little bit.
"Oh no, she must have caught herself on the wire!" Kirsty said, looking around the area. She looked at Vogues paw, I held Vogue in my arms and held her head back gently so Kirsty could see it. She tried to wriggle from my grasp in discomfort but I managed to soothe her.
"She's proper cut herself, we need to get her checked out with the vet." She said, I nodded in agreement. I scooped up the puppy, gently so her paw was steady on my arm. As we walked back towards the house, Kirsty got on the phone with Vogue's veterinarian. I had my car keys on me so we could drive there straight away. Vogue whimpered and shook in my arms, she was scared.
"It's going to be okay, Baby." I cooed, stroking her back to try and get her to calm down. I passed her to Kirsty before sitting in the drivers seat, Kirsty sat next to me with Vogue on her lap. I quickly looked through the glove box and found a couple napkins.
"Do you need some of these, clean her up a bit?" I asked her.
"Yes please, the blood is making her quite distressed." Kirsty said, I gave her the napkins before I started driving towards the vets. I could see in the corner on my eye Kirsty dabbing the balking gently around the wound, poor Voguey looked so scared. After a couple of minutes we made it to the vets, I pulled up outside and Kirsty carried Vogue out.
"I need to find a parking space, you go in without me." I said, hearing another driving beeping behind me.
"Okay Jackie, see you in a minute." Kirsty said before going into the building. The impatient driver beeped at me again, obviously frustrated.
"Come on dickhead! We've all got places to be." He shouted out of the window, some people just need to have some respect. An adorable ball of fluff is injured!
Kirsty's POV:
I took my poor puppy into the vets, I felt so bad for her being in all this discomfort. I got her checked in and we were told to sit over in the waiting room as the veterinarian was prepping the room, sterilising it as a dog with canine influenza had just left. I understood, I didn't want Voguey to get sick. Vogue fidgeted and whimpered in my lap, she was scared and in a lot of pain."It's okay Baby, they're going to make your paw feel better very soon. Just relax, you're alright." I cooed softly as I stroked her back. Jack soon came in and sat with us.
"How long do we have to wait?" He asked, looking around the waiting room. We weren't the only ones here, there was some poorly tortoises, a couple cats and a parrot waiting to be seen by the vet. However, I've been to this vet before and they have a couple veterinarians so we shouldn't have to wait too long. And the receptionist did say that our examination room was just being cleaned. I held Vogue in my arms and kissed the top of her head, she still smelt of raspberry ripple dog shampoo.
"Vogue the dog!" The vet called out as he stuck his head out the door, he was only down the hall. I gently picked up Vogue and carried her down to the room, I sat down on the chair and rested her on my lap.
"Poor thing, she's been in the wars hasn't she." The vet said as he stroked her head.
"So can you tell me how this happened before I examine her?" He asked, I looked over at Jack to tell the tale as I had to settle Vogue who was squirming about.
"We were taking her for a walk out onto the fields through the woods, she couldn't see over the tall blades of grass and she caught herself on some barbed wire." Jack explained.
"Okay, can you put Vogue on the table for me please?" The vet asked, washing his hands in the sink. I nodded and gently lifted up Vogue onto the table, I had her lay on her belly so she won't put too much pressure on her paw.
"Alright then, let me take a look." The vet said, I held Vogue steady as he examined her wound. She whimpered and occasionally growled, I felt so sad for her as she was obviously in pain.
"I need to clean up her cut, it doesn't look too big for stitches but I can use this glue to fix it up." He said, at least it wasn't too bad.
"Will she need the cone of shame?" I asked him, Vogue would absolutely hate that.
"No, that won't be necessary. I'm going to patch her up and put on a bandage, she'll be right as rain in no time." He said, that made me a bit more calm. I scratched Vogue behind the ears to soothe her. The vet put some numbing cream on her paw so she wouldn't feel too much pain, he cleaned the inside of her cut to avoid infection before getting the special glue that helps wounds close. Vogue managed to stay still the entire time, thanks to the numbing cream. Jack lightly stroked her back, I was definitely going to give her a lot of biscuits and cuddles when we get home.
"Okay, what bandage would you like?" The vet asked, showing a selection of cute patterns.
"Aww, they all look so cute. I think the pink one with the blue paw prints would really suit her, would you like that Voguey?" I cooed, asking the puppy. She actually barked sweetly in response, I guess that was her clear favourite. The vet wrapped up her paw nicely, Vogue actually looked so adorable with the bandage on.
"Ok, you are free to go. Take this leaflet and if Vogue shows any signs of infection I want you to bring her back." The vet said passing Jack the leaflet, it had signs and symptoms of infection and ways to avoid any infection which would be useful.
"Thank you so much." I thanked the veterinarian before we left the building.
When we got home we wrapped Vogue up in loads of blankies, gave her a couple of dog treats and cuddles her. She was very much enjoying the road to recovery.
