Pancake Day is tomorrow!

--------------------------

Kirsty's POV:

Pancake day was tomorrow, a day most of the British public forget about because it is always on the forgetful day of a Tuesday. But how could I forget? Jack wouldn't let me hear the end of it! I was trying to fold my laundry when Jack ran up behind me and hugged me tightly from behind, I jumped and dropped the whole pile that I had just ironed.

"It's pancake's day eve!" He said happily, I've never known anyone to love pancake day as much as Jack, not even a child.

"I know, Jackie. Can you please help me with my clothes?" I asked, I spent ages ironing and folding and even some of Jack's clothes were in the pile.

"Okay, I'm sorry Squish. I'm just excited." As he bent down with me, nothing was too wrinkled which was good, I'm sounding so old!

"I know you are, and don't get me wrong I love your pancakes." I said as I put the pile back on the bed, ready to separate my clothes from his.

"I can't wait to make them for you, I'm making buttermilk ones and I have streaky bacon and I'm going to make a berry compote too." Jack explained, excitement spreading across his face. He was adorable.

"Sounds delicious, I can't wait to try it." I said, I love Jack's cooking.

"Why don't you make them with me?" Jack suggested.

"Can't you just make them, I'll watch you make them then I'll eat them?" I asked, I normally let Jack take charge in the kitchen. I'm a brilliant taste tester.

"Come on, it'll be so much fun! I promise." Jack pleaded as he laid his head on my shoulder, he flashed me his famous puppy dog eyes and pushed out his lips into the most adorable pout.

"Fine, I'll make pancakes with you. But you need to let me flip them, that's my favourite part." I said, trying to get a negotiation started.

"I'll let you flip your pancakes, I'll do my own." Jack said, sounded fair to be honest.

"Deal." I said, we secured that deal with a kiss and enjoyed the rest of the evening together.

Jack's POV:

IT'S PANCAKE DAY! WHOOP WHOOP! I have been looking forward to this day all month, I love cooking, I like pancakes, I like Tuesdays, therefore I will love this day. I got out of bed really early and ran right to the kitchen, I strapped on my apron and grabbed the ingredients out of the fridge and cupboards. Once I was all set up I ran back upstairs to get Kirsty to come and join me. I jumped on the bed and started shaking her.

"Squish, wake up, it's pancake day!" I said happily, it was like Christmas for me. Kirsty yawned and rolled over onto her back.

"Five more minutes, please Jack." She said tiredly, rubbing her eyes.

"Nooooo, come on. I have all the ingredients set up. Squuuuuish, pleeeeease!" I moaned, I was aware that I was being an annoying child but I was just a pancake aficionado.

"Okay, I'm getting up." Kirsty said sitting up, I chucked an apron in her face before heading back downstairs. Maybe making Kirsty a cup of tea would make up for the early start to the day. She came into the kitchen wearing the apron, tying her hear up into a messy ponytail as she went.

"Wow, you really have everything set up. Now what do you want me to do?" She asked, I passed her the cup of tea I made for her and assessed our set up that I had prepared.

"Can can start weighing out the ingredients to make the batter." I suggested, get the boring stuff out the way then get to the actual cooking.

"Okay, is this the recipe?" Kirsty asked looking at the laminate on the counter.

"Yes indeed." I replied.

"You even found the time to laminate it, you never stop do you?" Kirsty asked amazed at my stationary skills.

"I take pancakes very seriously, I'll weigh the flour and you can weight out the butter and the milk." I assigned our kitchen roles and got onto cooking.

As I weighed out the flour, I turned my head round and saw Kirsty wasn't enjoying it as much as I thought she would. This part was the boring part but we could make this fun. I put my fingers into the flour and snuck up behind her, I then swiped Kirsty across the cheek hence smearing the flour across her face.

"Jack!" She said annoyed, she then put her fingers in the butter and swiped my face. Have I just started a food fight? Kirsty then reached for the raspberries and started chucking them at me one by one. Yep, food fight! We covered each other in berry juice and flour, the kitchen was an absolute mess, we both looked an absolute mess but it was the most fun we had had in ages.

"Truce?" I asked before Kirsty poured milk on me, I was getting hungry now and wanted to eat the pancakes.

"Truce." Kirsty said offering me her hand to shake. The fight was officially over! We finished measuring the batter ingredients together and mixed them up in a bowl, I got my berries and sugar heating in a pan and my bacon was under the grill. We put the batter on the frying pan and shaped it into a heart.

"Aww, can I flip it. Please can I flip it, pretty please!" Kirsty begged me.

"Sure you can, but I'm standing well back." I said, Kirsty held the handle on the frying pan and moved it back and forth before attempting the flip. She actually did it pretty well...actually it was flawless.

"Seriously, that's what I have to live up to?" I said, I was a good flipping but not that good. Especially first time in a day.

"I'm just an undercover pancake master." Kirsty declared as she put the pancake on a plate, putting some of my berry compote on the side. I poured the batter onto the frying pan, just a boring old circle but whatever. I prepared for the flip, come on Jack, you can do this! Three, two, one, hoopla! Crap...it umm...it had stuck to the ceiling. Kirsty fell to floor in floods of laughter, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

"Oh my God, it is an episode of Peppa Pig but in real life!" Kirsty laughed.

"Are you calling me a pig?" I said sounding dramatically offended.

"Of course you're not a pig, you're a flipping giraffe, why do you have to be so tall?" Kirsty asked, then I was laughing. I helped her up off the floor and we gave the pancakes another try, flipping it together this time and it being a lot more successful then the first attempt. I put some bacon on my plate along with my berry compote and we sat in the living room to eat.

"This was so much fun, I can't wait until next year." Kirsty said as we ate our wonderful creation.

"Now do you understand why I get so hyped every year?" I asked her, did she catch pancake fever like I did long ago?

"Oh, I totally understand!" Kirsty said, she put the food on her fork and moved it to my mouth to feed me. It tasted like pure sweetness, not a bad turn out this year.
