"EVAN! THEO! Come and eat dinner NOW!"
My mum's voice rang across the house. I put down the toy pig I was sewing (*extra info about the wonderful Evan Roadage* I can knit and sew. It was another skill I acquired to get used to manipulate string. I sometimes do simple projects to think through complicated stuff.)
I opened my door, and joined my older brother, Theo to the dining room.
Theo, who is 2 years older than me, is an Analyser.
This was strange, because apparently there were no Analysers in our family for the past few generations. (Abilities are usually passed through family)
Well, now everyone, even grandma who found it very disturbing that he was an Analyser has accepted the fact he is a powerful Analyser. Theo is also Nina's unofficial mentor, which is very useful for Nina, as she lives just in front of us. (She can literally walk 10 steps to ask for help for her abilities.)
Anyway. We sat at the dining table, making random faces and moves at each other. (That's what brothers are for, right?)Mum was walking in and out of the kitchen, her brown hair flying everywhere, and dad was sitting in front of the computer, his glasses almost touching the screen, totally absorbed in a soccer game.
"Ev...Theo? Can you please set the cutlery?" Mum turned back to the kitchen. "Who's she asking again?" I repeated this question for the millionth time to Theo. "I did it the last time" Theo retorted. With some bickering and dad's interruption, I gave up and did it.
We obediently sat on the table and waited for dad to sit down. "Jordie! Come and sit!" My mum shouted, with slight irritation. "Coming darling!" Dad replied with humour.
Theo and I exchanged a look. (and a secret smile) "I feel like I have three sons" mum grumbled. "Yeah dad! You told us we couldn't go on our phones before eating dinner. But how come you're allowed to watch soccer?" I commented joyfully. "Awww shut up" My dad growled with false anger.
We all laughed. Then quietly started eating like civilised human beings."Hey dad?" "Hmm?" "I saw a girl covered in purple strings the other day..." He was on full alert now. "How thick?" "I couldn't cut it so I neutralised it...so...It's not choking her now?" My dad looked like he was thinking hard.
"Let's talk about it after dinner." "Okay" After dinner, Theo got out the mint chocolate ice cream on a cone and I went to my parent's room while licking it. (My favourite ice cream) I swung on the chair with wheels and dad sat on his bed.
"Are you sure you had the eye patch on? What did Nina say about it?" My dad started. "She looked pretty concerned about her-her name is Violet. Violet Kang. Also you know I don't take off that uncomfortable thing off at school..." "I've never heard that name before, have I?" "She's only in my drama class. You know how I don't like to talk to strangers."
I swear he said something like 'I wonder where he got that trait from' so I kindly reminded him that my personality reflected his. "...Nina managed to 'scan' her. All the info is on her phone." "Could you please ask Nina to come over now?" dad said in his authoritative voice, which he didn't use often. I obeyed him and texted Nina. "COME OVER. DAD SUMMONS U"
