Tuesday lunchtime, a dark figure sat inside a quiet room, solemnly sulking about life decisions.
That figure was me. What I was regretting? Making the wrong friends in life.
My wonderful childhood friend had just decided to plague me with a bundle of problems- mind you, that I totally was going to solve without her pushing- and went laughing off to lala land
'Nina just had a student council meeting' stop it my idiotic conscious
Creak
"Um hello? Is that you, Evan?"
Click
"Why didn't you put the light on?"
"I err...."
What was a cool excuse to stay in the dark? I couldn't just be-
'Oh hey Violet! I was just sulking haha!'So my good old mouth sputtered out-
"To get inspiration!"
....
"Pardon, what?"
"Ah in yes inspiration for a new pattern! You know, for a scarf! I make scarves! We make scarves!"
I did not need a mirror to see that I was blushing, nor an Ast to tell me I was making a huge fool of myself."I...Guess we're making a scarf today?"
Violet had a plain expression that did not betray any emotion, thank goodness for that.Gesturing towards my collection of yarn, I continued.
"Yep. We could probably sell them as well at the end of year if it turns out well." Seeing Violet slowly touching the yarn I added;"Maybe start with a thick string? It's easier to work with thicker strings in the start."
I wish that was the case with Violet as well. Alas; relationships aren't simple as yarn.
Sitting Violet down on one of the bean bags, I taught her how to make a knot, how to make stitches and how to knit.
For around 15 minutes we sat there quietly knitting.
From far away, it could be a peaceful sight with two teenagers quietly knitting away.
However it reality... It was so damn

DHesitating, I looked over to Violet. Her dark hair forbid me from having a full view of her face, but a crease on her forehead showed that she was concentrating.
"Should I turn on some music?" Asking carefully, I looked down on my own scarf, a deep blue color, probably the color of my covered eye right now.
"Nah it's all goods." Violet just replied, knitting her own dark purple scarf.
Why dark purple out of all colors
Okay! Evan! You can do this! Just 30minute more till lunch ends! I just need to...
"Hey Evan?" "Yes?" Violet sheepishly smiled at me, holding out her 'scarf'
"Can you help me fix this?"
Never did I imagine that I'd miss Nina's knitting skills. At least her work could be undone.
"Probably not?" The hope in Violet's face faded. "It just...started out as a small knot, so I ignored it, but know it's a whole mess."
"Like all messes." Sighing, I walked towards Violet.
"You know the story of the Gordian knot?" "A what?" "The Gordian knot."
I replied, taking the tangled scarf from her hands."It's a tale about how Alexander the Great became such a great conquerer. There was a prophery-"
Reaching for the pair of scissors behind Violet, I continued.
"That a man-" Violet's eyes hardened.
'That the person who managed to untie a knot will be able to conquer Asia.""So obviously Alexander did that."
"Untied the knot?" "Yes and no."
Violet's forehead creased again, not with concentration, but with confusion."You know, sometimes the answer is simple. If the knot can't be untied-"
Snip
"You should cut it." Smiling triumphly, I took the remnants of the 'scarf' and started untying it, creating a small ball of yarn.
"Interesting life philosophy, Evan." Violet thoughtfully added
"Call me professor Roadage."This time, looking into those brown eyes, we both started laughing out loud.
Maybe this wasn't such a bad idea after all
