'Don't slack off because you only have two weeks left till the holidays...'
The teacher's voice faded off as my ears narrowed onto the sound of the clock.
'tick tock, tick tock, tic tock....BEEP'
The teacher just laughed tiredly at the teens running off towards the door, half-heartedly waving towards them.
Sorry, Miss Piper. Hope you have a wonderful evening as well. Nodding, I joined the crew running outside, grasping my phone that shows
'Come over to my place afterschool-Nina'
-------
"Ahh how much I've missed this bed...so fluffy...so soft..."
"Thanks Ast, I'll take that as a compliment to my bed" Nina replied cynically, as if watching a puppy spreading their fur all over her bed.
"Wa som snarks?" "Yep I totally understood what you were saying right now Evan"
gulp
"Do you want some popcorn Nina?" "Sure do."
Currently, we were lying down on Nina's black and white checkered bed, our attention circling around a certain topic. Waiting for the bomb to fall and ruin this atmosphere, I decided to enjoy this moment to eat some snacks.
"So...You wanted to talk, Ast?"
"Hmmm? Yes"
The brown eyes of Ast suddenly sharpened, as if bracing for an impact.
"My mum..."
Huh? Not his dad?
"My mum was like Violet, you know. A person wandering and drifting past everyone, not suited to a certain group she wished to be in. Apparently your dad, Evan, my dad and Nina's mum tried to help her, like how we are trying to help Violet"
...Maybe it was a bad timing to mention I had forgotten about Violet for the past week because of Ast
"And she....fell for someone, and our parents noticed."
"Ugh that's so awkward" "This is when I love and hate seeing relationships" Both Nina and I gave our own feedbacks to this rather new history.
"So she ran away from them, almost exposing our abilities."
Nina had a sharp intake. Gosh, that was the first law all Analysers, Aurors and Puppeteers need to keep in mind-
Never expose our abilities to others
Partially to protect us from others, but majorly to protect the abilities from being misused by the greedy society, who could literally wound everyone into a spider web, trapping the public with their private secrets, relationships or emotions.
"But skip to when she married my dad, her memories of the whole ability thing, you know, was erased? Yep, erased. But once I was born with eyes that shifted colour every second, my dad couldn't do anything but to explain everything to mum."
"As you can tell, once my dad passed away..my mum became a bit unstable?"
"Did she-" "No no, she never lay her hands on me. Ever. Just...."
"I wish dad was here, that's all."
"So guys, remember my dad?"
""..Yeah""
"He was a pretty handsome dude, your dad. Even as a 6-year old I knew that"
Nina started off
"He loved pranking us, didn't he? I still remember being shocked at him giving me a fake cockroach....that was..."
Shivering, I glanced back at Ast, who was facing the ceiling, with a growing smile on his face.
"Gosh how much he annoyed my mum! Mum always threatened never to bake for him ever again each time he came over to my house."
"Wasn't he one of the biggest customer to your mum's bakery, Nina?"
"Unfortunately to mum, yes."
We all started giggling, as we remembered Mr Fanshawe dragging around a huge bag like santa, filled with different desserts, fooling us around.
"I swear his ability was not an Auror, but to eat bread quickly..."
Wiping tears from his eyes, whether from the joy or pain, Ast choked out some fond remarks.
And the evening went, with us remembering Mr Johnny Fanshawe.
----
"Guys, aren't we forgetting something?"
"Hmmm?" "I wonder what. Probably nothing much of importance..."
Then a word went across all three of our brains.
"Violet"
