"Nothing is impossible"

I've always hated this phrase. It's a phrase always used to try motivate unwilling people, such as me, to do unreasonable things. Yet this silly, common cliche sentence pierced my brain when tears started to trail down Ast's umber face...The face always full of smiles, always.

...really?

Stumbling like a newly born deer, Ast started running. We all just stared at the remainder of Ast, the black hat we were just laughing at.

Bam!

As the door slammed close, Nina and I just looked at each other. So much of having special abilities. We can't even help our friend, but how in the earth are we supposed to help some person-practically a stranger-from their relationships?

The damned clock demanded answers, as if we could provide it.

"We...we should go. Thanks for the wonderful dinner, Freda, Jordie."

Joy started to collect her containers once full with desserts, as her husband, Roy, tugged at Nia's hand. Judging by his expression, he was silently hoping Nina would follow him, but Nina stubbornly pretended to not see.

Perhaps unconsciously, Nina's long fingers rubbed against the black spiky piercings on her rather small earlobes.  Faintly, I could hear my parents and Nina's parents chatting with false eagerness, about how wonderful the dinner was and when they'll another dinner.

Nonetheless, the choking silence didn't leave the room. My eyes, roaming, landed on an old photo. It was rather faded, but it contained three people, one brown-haired boy with glasses frowning, a short girl with long black hair grinning while trying to be in shoulder-to-shoulder with her companions, and a tall boy with cropped hair, beaming with the same smile as Ast.

My legs suddenly moved forward, but something blocked my pathway. Looking down, a black hat lay, a hat of ridiculous design that no one except Ast would be able to wear. Leaning downwards, my fingers almost brushed the hat when...

"Dad?"

A set of sky blue eyes shone down on me, smiling gently.

"I'll go give this to him." He said, taking the hat, slowly feeling it.

Nina's shoulders sagged in relief. Thank God. At least dad is here.

Wait

How did Ast survive

Without his dad solving his problems for him, like a normal child?

Revulsion and relief danced and blended together, producing one product

Guilt.

My left eye started hurting

-------------

Hello! It's me after such a long time! (Sorry!)

I've never thought I'll go the heavy route with Ast...(Why can't I predict where my characters will go *sigh*)
