Greez has informed us that it would be about another day before reaching Dathomir, mainly because he didn't want to go back to that place.
He can be an occasional annoyance.
I sighed and stood up from my spot on the couch, and decided to look for my friend.
Kylin was sitting in her bedroom, playing with BD-1. I knew she couldn't understand Binary, but she still seemed to enjoy the little android's company.
"Hey," I said, sitting next to her.
Kylin looked up, her eyes bright. "Hey, Cal, BD and I are just hanging out. I don't really understand what he says so this sort of consists of many one sided conversations." She shrugged.
I laughed. After we had slept, she seemed in a much better mood. Well, some what. Something was definitely still bugging her.
"How you feeling?" I asked, gesturing to her face.
I could've sworn her eyes darkened. "Well, I guess I'm alright physically. Kind of. I don't know. My face kinda hurts." She shrugged and turned back to BD.
"How about mentally?"
She didn't answer for a while.
"I honestly do not want to go back to Dathomir. I know we have to, and I wanna be there to help you, but it just- I just don't want to see my parents like that again."
I sighed. "Ky, you know you don't have to come. I appreciate your company, and your help, but I don't want you getting hurt because you worry about me."
"Of course I worry about you, Cal! You're my best friend. I've never had a friend like you. I just don't want to leave you out there with some crazy, power hungry Jedi dude who obviously has some mental issues." Kylin looked a little sad.
Despite the seriousness of this conversation, I laughed. Quite hard. "He has some mental issues, yes. Spot on."
She laughed along with me. "It isn't funny why are we laughing?"
I stopped to catch my breath, but the laughing continued. "I don't even know!"
Kylin grabbed onto my shoulders and shook me. "Breathe Cal, breathe!"
I nodded and sighed. "Yep. Yep, I think I'm good now."
BD-1 beeped questionably.
"I'm fine now, bud."
Kylin raised an eyebrow but sighed.
"Okay," I said, "I may fine now, but what about you? I scooted closer to her, as when we were laughing I sort of ended up a couple feet away.
Her eyes gave away it all, though she started to lie. "I'm fine."
I shook my head. "Ky, I know you too well. You're a horrible liar."
She lowered her head. "I don't want to see my parents."
I pulled her close to me. "Ky, we all gotta face our pasts at some point. I know seeing your parents like that is painful, and I'm sorry. But sometimes confronting those fears will make you stronger, Ky."
Kylin sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry. But I still can't help but feel like it's my fault this all happened." She looked up at me. "And I know what you said, I do, but sometimes I just can't help but think about it that way."
My chest ached. I couldn't stand to see her like this. My Master may have died, but her parents. The people who are literally her flesh and blood.
I just sat there, unsure of what to say.
BD started beeping.
"What's up, bud?" I asked with a sigh.
"Frill-boooooop." He said.
My mind was not able to process what this little droid had told me.
You like her, BD-1 had said.
Did I? Was that the feeling that kept me awake?
Kylin had a quizzical look on her face. "What did he say?"
I didn't know if I should tell her.
I smiled sheepishly. "He said not to worry about your parents," I lied, earning an annoyed set of beeps from the little droid.
Kylin raised an eyebrow. "Something tells me that you aren't telling me the truth."
"No no, that's what he said."
She began to ramble on about how she doesn't understand binary and that I shouldn't lie to her, but I found myself not listening.
Instead, I stared at her lips as they moved.
"Cal! Are you even listening to me?"
I nodded and she continued talking.
Something was pulling me.
I reached out and grabbed Kylin's chin, turning her towards me.
She stopped talking as I pulled her into a kiss.
Kylin froze, but shocked me as she returned the kiss.
Something inside was just exploding. I didn't know what it was, but I enjoyed it.
It could have been more seconds, or maybe hours before we both pulled away.
I searched Kylin's eyes, but they gave away nothing.
She hugged me tight, not saying anything but just being there.
"I'm sorry," I murmured into her hair.
"Don't be," she whispered. Ky looked up. "Is that what BD was talking about?"
I shrugged. "More or less."
BD-1 beeped at me. Finally.
Rolling my eyes, I couldn't help but laugh a little.
I felt happy. It was odd. Not odd that I was happy, but this was a different happy.
Something I could definitely get used to.
