If you know nothing about the game, the boy is Oliver who is a wizard
And the weird little thing is his familiar
Who I named Ponyo because the game uses Studio Ghibli art/animations and also the feet look like chicken ponyo

Also I'm so glad things showed up when I googled chicken ponyo because that's just what I call this version of Ponyo, i didn't think others called her that too
