"Tesoro!" Dad calls. I sigh. "I got to go Ash. Talk later?" I ask with a smile. "Of course. Bye, Babe." He says before ending the call. I try and smother my giant grin but ultimately fail. "Talking to that boy again?" Dad teases when I make it downstairs. I laugh.
"Ash? Yeah." I admit sheepishly. We were on the phone for like an hour. It's been two weeks since I agreed to be his girlfriend. And surprisingly during that time, Claudia, Martin and Ethan haven't bothered us. Emily and I acknowledge each other at lunch, in classes and in the hallway. We've began talking a bit.
I won't fully trust her anytime soon, but it'd be nice having my old friend back. Bianca still disapproves of her, no surprise there. But I think Em is slightly growing on her. She has that effect on people. Believe me.
"Where is Mom?" I ask, confused. Dad eyes me warily. "She's out with the Regans. She invited Ethan's family over for dinner again." He informs me. An automatic frown takes place of the smile I once had. "She's doing this to torture me." I murmur. Dad frowns.
"I think your mother genuinely just wants to rekindle old friendships, Tesoro. She may be tough on you, but I'm sure your mother wouldn't want any harm to come to you. She loves you." He says firmly. I nearly scoff. Is that why she hooked up with my ex?
"Can I invite Ashton at least?" I ask hopefully. He sighs. "Ashton was here the last time we had dinner with them, Love. I think we should just hang out with our guests tonight." He refuses. I cross my arms and scowl. "Dad, Ethan is my ex boyfriend who cheated on me. Not to mention he was touching me last time during dinner. It's awkward as fu- heck." I point out, correcting my slip up of the cuss word.
Dad shrugs slightly. "I'm sorry Sweetie. We'll sit you next to Emily tonight then. Deal?" I roll my eyes. "Yeah whatever." I mutter before heading back upstairs. I click Ash's number, which is on speed dial, and wait as it rings. "Hello?" A female voice asks. I frown. "Who's this?" I question, willing my thoughts to come up with a good explanation.
"My name is Audrey. You?" She asks back. My frown deepens. Who is she? "Um Charlotte. Ashton's girlfriend." I answer coolly. A squeal erupts on the other line. "You're the infamous Charlotte? Finally! Ash talks about you non-stop!" She exclaims.
I roll my eyes. "Well good for him. But who the hell are you? He's never mentioned an Audrey." I say bitterly. She giggles. "I'm his cousin. No need to get jealous." She teases me. I release a breath of relief. Thank God! "Oh. Sorry." I apologize sheepishly. She laughs again.
"No worries. I'll grab Ash right now." I hear shuffling on the other end and Audrey yelling for Ashton. The static stops and his voice comes on. "Hey Char." He greets. I smile. "Hey Ash. Is this a bad time?" I ask nervously. He laughs.
"It's never a bad time to talk to you, Gorgeous." He says in a teasing tone. My face flushes red. "Cheesy. Could I come over? I need to get away right now." I admit. He tells me to hold on and I hear some muffled speaking.
"Yeah. Mom said it's fine. And Drey really wants to meet you. Want me to pick you up?" He questions. I toss that idea in my head then smile. "If that's okay with you." I decide.
"I'll be there in ten."
He ends the call and I jump into action. I strip out of my oversized hoodie and shorts and pull on a navy blue, low hanging top with a open cross on the back. I make sure to put a tank top on under it. Just in case. I also pull on my light blue skinny jeans and braid my hair.
I don't bother with any makeup. I shove my phone into my back pocket and skip downstairs. "You heading out?" Dad asks. I send him a dead look. "No shit sherlock. Can't guarantee I'll be home for dinner." I call, not stopping my trip to the door. "Charl-"
