CHRISTMAS SURPRISE

Mom and dad woke me up Christmas morning. So long ago I would have risen at the break of dawn to wake my parents. But now it was past nine o'clock and past the time of carrying. Christmas wasn't fun like it used to be. I've learned as you grow up the things you thought as a child just don't have any meaning or fun as an adult. I'm not an adult, but I can't seem to find the fun in things anymore. Christmas stopped being fun a long time ago when I realized Santa wasn't real. Visiting your grandparents stopped being a fun family tradition and become a chore when you realized they were dying. Talking to people stopped being fun when you learned to hate everything they said.

Life stopped being fun when you realized all you have to live for is death. Death was the only thing you could be certain on, the only thing you could truly live for. When you realize that, then what's the point anymore?

I got up, I put on a smile and I opened presents with my family. Peanut got a new dog bed, not that he needed a new one. Dad bought mom jewelry, mom bought dad a new brief case and wallet matching set. Mom bought me a ton of new clothes. They were bright and happy, they'd give people the wrong idea. I realized as I opened more presents and found gift cards in them that my parents didn't know a thing about me. It's sad when you think about it, really sad.
