“Wow, I never thought of it like that before.” Yaomomo says, pressing her knuckle against her chin with a small smile. “That’s unbelievable, (Y/n). Your quirk seems to get more and more interesting every time we hear about it.” The girls around her seem to agree.
It was odd, your quirk. The name of it was just “bat”, and it gave you all the senses and abilities of a common bat. You could hear better than anything, though couldn’t see. Bats themselves aren’t actually blind, but your vision was rendered so horribly that you could barely make out shapes. Your ears were pointed slightly, a bit bigger than a normal humans’. The canines in your mouth were also a lot sharper, and your voice could hit higher and lower pitches that humans can’t. Everything else, however, was normal about you.
This meant you were extremely good with voices. “Actually, I’ve never really thought about it. So, you’re legally blind?” Kyoka asks from beside you, her eyes looking you up and down.
You nod and smile, putting your hand up to gesture to your eyes. “Unfortunately, yes. A lot of people think being blind means that you can’t see anything, but that’s not how it works, in most cases.” You wave your hand in front of your face, your fingers waving slightly through your black fingerless gloves. “A lot of elderly people end up with eyes like mine because of old age. Their vision is so foggy, not even a prescription can help them. Well, it could, but it’d still render them blind. I was offered glasses, contacts, even surgery, but I refused.” You smile, balling your hand into a fist as the material of your gloves makes a satisfying sound.
From across the common room, you hear someone enter. “Hm.” The feminine voice hums as the girl takes a seat in an open spot next to you. “Why would you deny all of that? Wouldn’t it be beneficial to see as well?” It was the voice of your closest friend, and secret crush, Toru Hagakure.
Your face became pink when she spoke. “W-Well, I just feel like it would be better for myself if I learned how to use my quirk how it was intended. Plus, Mr. Aizawa said that it was impressive that I’m so agile and alert despite not being able to see. Praise from him is rare, and it made me feel like I did the right thing.” Your voice was low and calm.
“It is impressive! He was right to give you praise!” The invisible girl shouts excitedly, one of her arms going up. You couldn’t hide the heat growing on your face, the sensation causing you to adjust yourself away from her.
“Thanks, Toru.” Your ears burn, yet the girls don’t seem to notice.
The rest of the conversation was carried on by Mina asking the rest of the girls about random things dealing with their quirks. You didn’t exactly listen very well, but started to perk up a bit as your invisible friend begins to speak. “I wish that my quirk was flashy and exciting. I literally blend in with the crowd.” She chuckles.
“Well, mine isn’t exactly all that flashy either.” Mina says, raising her hand up to her chest. “It’s just simple acid.”
Kyoka laughed softly, squinting at her. “Yeah, but you stand out. Did you forget that you’re pink, your eyes are black, and you have horns?”
Lighthearted laughs pass over the group. “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” She laughs, looking over at the rest of the group.
There was silence for a moment, soon filled with a girl’s yawn. It came from Uraraka, who had stretched her hands up. “Well, it’s getting late, guys. Should we head to bed?” Her voice is high, causing your ears to twitch just slightly.
Some of the girls agreed, nodding their heads and saying their goodnights. You, on the other hand, weren’t exactly ready to go to bed. Because of your quirk, you had trouble falling and staying asleep at night. This meant you could sit out on your little balcony for hours and just “watch” the stars, though you’d be tired all day.
