{Camping Trip - 1}

The two of them were quite the unlikely duo, so when Shoji brought up the idea of going camping, everyone was surprised to find out that Todoroki had agreed to go with him. Originally, the tall boy had planned on bringing Koda, but he had fallen ill the day before the trip. Not wanting to cancel his plans over the extended four-day weekend, Shoji brought it up to the table he sat at during lunch. Mineta denied immediately, where Iida and Midoriya apologized for pre-made plans. Todoroki sat two spots away from him and only seemed to agree to go so he could get out of spending time at home with his father.

The day of the trip, Shoji wished his friends farewell before turning to leave with Todoroki. The half-n-half boy was bombarded with goodbyes and good luck by his group, though he dismissed himself quickly when he realized his acquaintance was heading for the bus stop. Silence fell between them as they walked side by side.

“Shoji,” Todoroki started as the taller boy led them through a barely noticeable deer trail. “How do you know where we’re going?”

When Shoji spoke, his voice was dry and it cracked throughout his sentence. “I’ve been here dozens of times.” It had been the first time the two spoke to each other for almost three hours. Bus stop to train station, then back to bus stop, just to go back onto a train, the two only really communicated through nods and small hums. That didn’t seem to bother either of them, though.

The simple statement seemed to be enough for Todoroki. His eyes were looking around at all of the different types of plants and trees, noticing all the variations of bugs that buzz throughout the large ecosystem. Never had the boy experienced something like this. Sure, he had gone on camping trips when he was very little, but those were to log cabins with heating, running water, and electricity. He had never expected himself to go out with nothing less than the weight on his back.

The two of them had survival packs, a tent, flashlights, and much more. Shoji even had two fishing poles that could collapse into small rods for easy carrying. Todoroki’s bag seemed to be ten times lighter than the boy’s in front of him. The white haired teenager had straps that carried a box on the bottom of his backpack, and a large roll-- which Shoto assumed was the tent. Inside, he knew there was a survival pack and a dozen other small things that needed to be carried around. In fact, his friend’s backpack seemed to be practically bursting at the seams, given how run down the poor bag looked.

Todoroki had packed his own personal sleeping bag, flashlight, bug spray, and was carrying a small wire stand that was meant to be placed over a fire to cook food. He had kind of forgotten everything that was in his pack, but it looked much lighter and easier to carry than whatever was in Shoji’s.

Suddenly, Todoroki’s mind was snapped back to reality when his forehead collided with his friends’s backpack. “We’re here.” He said slowly, his voice calm and collected, not even acknowledging his friends slip up.

The heterochromatic eyes of the shorter teen looked around in confusion. “There’s nothing here.” He allowed his bag to slide off his shoulders and rest against a stump on the edge of the small clearing.

“Exactly.” There was something about Shoji’s voice that told Todoroki that he was amused. Todoroki watched as his friend pulled his pack off while also skillfully removing the rolled up tent with one of his various hands. “Do you want to help with the tent? If you don’t know how, I can do it.”

“Teach me.” The smooth voice of Shoto Todoroki was such a foreign sound to Shoji in the depths of the woods. The two of them were barely friends, and here they were hanging out as friends do. Normally, Shoji would bring literally anyone else on trips like this, sometimes even bring a few people, but they didn’t feel like leaving the dorms this week.
