{Something Sweet - 1}

“Can I just have a plain hot chocolate?” Asks the woman in front of you. Her eyes aren’t even focused on you, but at the phone in her hand. She looks at you with a blank expression before forcing a quick smile.

You slid your thumbs down the side of your green apron and smiled back at her. “Of course. What’s your name, ma’am?” You ask her, grabbing a paper cup with the Starbucks logo on it. You pull a permanent marker from the front pocket of the apron before popping its cap.

The woman slides the phone in her jean pocket before crossing her arms. “Suzuki.”

You write the woman’s name on the cup before flashing another, warmer smile. “Alright.” While typing a few things into the cash register, you tell her the total balance of her order. “We’ll call your name when it’s ready.” You turn and begin to make the customer’s drink. There was a metal pot filled with cocoa infused milk. When you looked over to see how full it was, it was nearly empty. Mindlessly, you slid the lid off and walked towards the back of the store.

While back there, a few coworkers waved at you. “Hey, when did you clock in?” One of the girls asks you.

You had been a barista at Starbucks for a little less than a year. You had already graduated from your high school, and needed any job to help with student loans. It hadn’t been your first job, but it was hell of a payment improvement, and you had a nice environment. Sure, there were a few dreadful customers here and there, but it was the ones that were always kind no matter what that made you love your job. Besides, money is money, and art school isn’t cheap. “Twenty minutes ago.” You huff, looking over at her with a smile. From the large, metal refrigerator, you grab an unopened gallon of milk. “I gotta refill the hot chocolate machine.”

With that, you walk back out to the front of the cafe. The metal pot still sits with the lid open, so you quickly go over and pour about half a gallon into it. It hums as it begins to warm the cool milk. Quickly, you take a cup of cocoa powder and toss it in the mixture. You put the lid back on before perking your ears at the sound of the bells on top of the front door ringing.

You turn your attention to a tall, blonde man walking in through the entrance. A mint colored sweater covers his top, where khakis cover his lower half. He approached the counter with a bright smile on his face, his enchanting blue eyes looking over at the menu above your head. While the milk warms up and mixes, you walk over to the counter with a just as welcoming smile on your face.

“Good afternoon, sir. How may I help you today?” You ask, tapping your fingers on the counter.

The blonde looks up and smiles. “Well, I’ve never been here before.” He rubs the back of his neck before laughing nervously. “Is there anything you would recommend? Something sweet, preferably.” His blinding smile never falters.

Undeniably, he was one of the most attractive men you have ever seen in your life. His eyes were such a beautiful color of blue, you couldn’t help but get lost in them. “If you’re looking for something cold, we have things like iced caramel macchiato, strawberry or caramel frappuccino, pink drink, and iced white chocolate mocha. Those are just a few of my favorites. Would you like me to name some warm or hot beverages?” You ask, looking back at the menu. A bright red light was blinking on the pot, signifying that the milk was hot and mixed.

“No, thank you. I’ll try the iced white chocolate mocha. Could I get a banana nut muffin, as well, please?” He asks politely. The man’s voice was so sweet, borderline cute.

You smile. “Of course.” While reaching for a cup, you also pull out the marker in your front bust pocket. “Could I get your name, sir?”
