Like promised, Laurent was at work by twelve, leaving Caroline in the house by herself. She listened to him, and she cleaned up a little bit before she went back to her room, but now she was bored out of her mind. It was peaceful, though; finally getting a chance to be alone. The house was warm, and her bed was comfortable. The only thing missing was a movie, but the remote to the TV was nowhere to be found. She wanted to look around for it, but she didn't have the energy. She did look around the interior of the room, though, and it began to grow on her the longer she stayed in it.
With a short huff, Caroline stood from the bed, walking around the room. She didn't want to leave her room, especially if she wasn't supposed to. If she didn't care, she'd have been in the living room watching Supernatural, but her room would have to do for now. It gave her time to think and reminisce on the day before any of this happened to her.
It was a good day, nice and sunny outside. Her mother was passed out drunk on the couch again, but she didn't even acknowledge it. Something had her in a good mood and she didn't know what, but she refused to let anyone get in the way of it. When she left her house, she had the biggest smile on her face and she kept telling herself that day was going to be a good day, and something good was about to happen to her.
Little did Caroline know.
Even when she arrived at school that morning, nobody could phase her. She met up with her usual friend group that consisted of her and two other people, Raya and Nathaniel. Raya was a sweet girl, but she was shy and stayed away from drama. She was the first friend Caroline made in that school, and for the whole year, you'd always see them together no matter where they were. Nathaniel, on the other hand, was the most flamboyant person you would ever meet. Caroline befriended him because he stood out, thanks to his hair. You would never see him with any natural colors in it, only blues, greens, and purples. He was loud and extremely outgoing, and he was a great friend to Caroline.
That fateful day, they made plans to have a party the following weekend because Raya's birthday was coming up. It would be just the three of them, of course, but three was enough for them. Caroline went to all her classes with them that day and she focused on class so much that her teachers were even surprised. After school, Raya and Nathaniel were going to walk Caroline home, but she told them to go on about their day because her mother would most likely be waking up soon.
After that, everything went to shit.
The last thing she remembered was her turning down her block and thinking of all the possible ways her day could ruin her day. She prayed that her mother wouldn't be awake and cranky, but before she even had time to make that discovery, she was hit in the head with a blunt object, causing her to lose consciousness. When she woke up, she realized she was in a dirty room, located in a place only God knows where. The more she thought of it, the more she realized that it was just yesterday when all that had happened, but it didn't feel like it. Everything went by too fast for her to comprehend, and her mind was in shambles. Ivy and Nathaniel would probably be the only two people who would notice she's missing.
I should have walked with my friends.
As she made her way around the room, she began to notice things she hadn't seen before. There were tiny little cracks in the walls from the chipped paint, although it seemed new when she first saw it. The room seemed to be aging as a whole, which confused her and made her question how long Laurent had this house. She hummed quietly as she walked over to her dresser, her fingers running over the smooth mahogany wood. She hadn't really looked inside of it before so she decided to take a look.
There were clothes inside folded neatly, and it was one color scheme for all of them. In the first drawer, the clothes were baby blue and silk, much like the clothes she had on. She ran her hands over them but she was careful not to mess them up. She closed that drawer and she opened up the second one, the bright yellow catching her eye instantly. The fabric was cotton and seemed warmer than what she had on. She closed that drawer and she moved down to the third one, bending down as she opened it. The clothes were a dark red, like crimson, and they were all lace. She figured they were there for special occasions, and she shuddered at the thought of what the occasions would be.
