Chapter Twenty-Two: And I Go By Halting
"Evelyn!" Vanessa and Sam was in the middle of an argument when we entered on the bedroom of someone in this family but once they see us entering inside the the room, they stops abruptly and exclaim together. Sam glare at his sister who was uncomfortably fidgeting beside me, and constantly trying to turn to Eliot who was now deep inside his phone, texting someone.
"Why did you have to get into the fight with Jayden?" Sam, whose glasses were now gone and instead of them there was golden-brown contacts, hiding his beautiful chocolate brown eyes, said to his sister in a stern tone.
Mia had to tear her attention from Eliot to his brother and coldly answers. "Do we have to talk about it?"
Sam sighs, giving up. "Whatever. Hey Evelyn. And... you are?" he looks behind us, matching his gaze to Eliot as he looks up from his phone, looking startled.
"I'm- I'm Eliot Green. Evelyn's cousin." He edgily state, shifting uneasily, sneaking beside me for help. I mentally laugh seeing his actions. Get your karma idiot.
He might no have any heart but I do, so I glance at them then introduced them with Eliot. "Guys, this is Eliot. And Eliot, this is Van," I point at the silver haired Van who spontaneously wave at Eliot who waves back. "And this is Sam. They are my only friends apart from Rosetta." Sam smiled at him.
I sit at the bed and turn to them. "So, what's up with you guys?"
"No." Van stops me. "What's up with you? Not to be rude, but what're you doing here?"
I shrug, lifting my shoulders slightly. "Austin called me here sine he saw me going somewhere."
Sam narrowed his eyes and examined me slowly then looks at me again. "Why do you wear shorts and t-shirt in this cold?"
Fuck my life. "Do you have to ask me the same question all the time?"
Van whipped her head to Sam's direction, immediately understanding. "Shut your shit-smelling-mouth or I'll send you to hell with my foot."
I gaze at her, silently saying 'Thank You' when Sam yowled, merely managing the huge insult of Van who unbend her hands in the air and yawns, then said, "People have no conscience this days."
Sam's face darkened. "You just insulted me Van."
Her head snaps at him. "Oh forgive me your majesty."
The conversation stops there when we hear Mia slammed the door close as Eliot sat on the other side of the bed, beside Van, still scrolling through his phone. My attention again diverged to them after that. "So how're you guys?"
Basically, I ask the question to Van since I know what she's going through the last couple of days. Running away from home isn't what our aged kids does normally but Van was looking extremely relaxed and careless, which I couldn't help but appreciate. Honestly, I respected the girl from the first time I saw her.
"Usual. Nothing special." Van answers, eyeing me knowingly. I moderately ducked my head up and down in a slow motion when Austin busted into the room, grinning about something as I heard someone screaming downstairs.
"Seriously, how many time people gets fucked up about a simple thing?" He jumps on the bed as the mattress spring with him, and we moved up and down along with it.
I put my one leg over the other and stretched them forwards. "What are they even yelling about?"
The three of them share a look with each other and bursts out in laughter. "What? What is it?"
