Chapter Fifty-Five: One of My Issues

The bell rang.

"That's him, that's him, that's him, go go go go go..." Mia hissed loudly and pushed me from on top of the staircase which made me nearly fall into my death but I steadied myself and glared at her before racing down the stairs.

The door bell didn't ring more than once which made my respect for Cal grow.

Making my feet fly over the floor, I got to the front door and opened it to see Cal Finer, my brother's teammate from football, which I may have already said, standing on the front porch.

Cal FIner, like I said, wasn't bad-looking. In fact he was so good looking, with brunette hair tousled and perfectly messy, he could compete with Sam or Austin but it didn't really matter when I turned around to see Jayden leaning on the bottom of the staircase with his arms crossed and his attention solely focused on Cal.

This was going to be hard to explain.

"Hey, Evelyn." He smiled, obviously oblivious to the fact Jayden was still behind me and I had a suspicion my brother probably taught him how to properly spell my name even though it was a bloody common one.

"Hey Cal," I brightly say, perhaps too brightly because I was pretty sure I heard Jayden groan in disgust.

"Well, you look... pretty." He said, and I grinned looking down at my outfit then at him and acknowledged his ones. He wore a simple navy blue button up and dark jeans, the sleeves rolled up to his elbow.

I gripped the door knob and forcefully let out another smile. "You look good too."

We stood there awkwardly, both of us looking around and pressing  our lips together. I couldn't think of anything else to say, it had nothing to do with his  appearance but something about him was off, as though he had one less thing that Jayden didn't.

And let's not think about him now.

"Well, I-I'm ready." I stuttered out, smoothing down the same colored skirt as the blouse and throwing my curled hair back, "So, let's go. Oh, and on second thought, can you wait in the car for a second?"

Cal looked taken aback by the request but agreed. "Oh yeah, sure. Sure, I'll be in the car. And it's the ford." He pointed at the silver car park on the opposite side of the road.

I nodded, "Okay."

"Well hello there, Cal."

A completely new voice, new to Cal but not to me, came from behind my shoulder and I whipped round to come nose to nose with Jayden and the next second, his arms slung over my shoulder, making my knees almost drop. "I have heard that you have a little date with Miss Evelyn right over here."

Cal looked too stunned to speak but he got the hold of the situation and quickly smiled. "Hey Jayden. How come you're here?"

Jayden put on a lazy smirk and tightened his grip on my shoulder. "Well, does it matter?"

Cal uncomfortably shared glances with me as I gave him an unconvincing smile, obviously confused why the most popular guy in the school was standing beside me with his arm around the nobody of school.

The situation was saved by Blake as he appeared out of thin air behind Cal, probably coming back from one of the guys' place and with a whoop, threw his arms around him which made the guy almost fall but being an athlete, you always have to be ready for anything so he straightened up and chuckled, tapping on Blake to let go.

"So," Blake grinned, which fell a little when he saw Jayden's arm around me but nevertheless he continued, "A date eh? Ah, I miss 17."

"Who're you kidding?" I rolled my eyes, making Jayden let  go of my shoulder. "Anyways, I'll go now Blake, entertain my friends for me?" I looked behind to see Mia peering from the staircase to take a look at Cal then at Blake who looked annoyed but agreed anyways.
