Mariah

The sound of my phone ringing caused me to wake up. Quickly thinking out my husband laying up in the hospital, I answered. “Hello?” I didn’t bother to check who was calling.

“Mariah, I sent a car for you. Come to the hospital.” Keedy spoke, scaring me.

“What, what’s wrong?” I rushed out of my bed, trying to find some sort of clothes to put on.

“Just get here baby girl.” She signed.

“Ok, I’m coming.”  I hung up so that I could put my clothes on. I quickly put on some tights and simple white t-shirt and flip flops. I didn’t care how my hair looked, about my make-up, nor jewelry. I just have to get back to my husband.

I panicked when I heard my phone start to ring again, from an unknown number. “Hello?” I answered my phone, getting my purse so that I could go downstairs and wait for the car service.

“Good morning Ms.Alsina. I’m Carl with the car service. I wanted to inform you that I am downstairs, out front.” The man on the other end of the line spoke.

“Ohkay, I am coming now.” I quickly hung up, almost running to the elevator and the car.

Finally getting outside, I saw a man standing on the passenger side of a town car.

“Mrs. Alsina?” He asked, hesitantly.

“Yea, yea. That;s me.” I nodded my head. I rushed over to the back seat door, damn near opening it myself. “Thanks” I smiled soon as I got in and Carl closed my door for me.

Carl walked around the car, back to the driver’s seat and got in. It seemed like he had to be going the slowest he could. Not to mention that Manhattan did not have the best reputation for traffic. I texted Noonie and Keedy to ask if everything was still ok. Of course the only thing they both replied was ‘get here, now!’ Like that was such a big help.

“Hey Carl, do you know any back routes?” I asked, really annoyed.

“Actually, this is the quickest route. We really aren’t that far away. About five to six minutes, to give you a time.” He smiled at me through the rearview.

“Yea, ohkay.” I rolled my eyes.

Instantly my phone started ringing. I looked down at the screen hoping that it was someone with information about my husband, but instead it was Johnae.

“Hello.” I answered, slightly annoyed that it wasn’t who I wanted it to be.

“Hey, maw.” She sounded cheerful, which lowkey cheered me up.

“Hi Johnae. How’s Johnny?” I sighed.

“He’s good. Just getting big. He misses his teedy and I miss my big sister.” She enlightened me. “But that is not why I called. I called about your husband,  how is he. I tried not to bother you, but nothing has been released into the media, and now I’m worried.” She smacked, reminding me that she was from the inner city of New Orleans.

“Well. I haven’t had time to let out a press release, but also because there is nothing to say. He is still unconscious, but hopefully he wakes up soon. The doctor says that he will be fine, but it seems like it is just a waiting game from here.” I up to dated her on August. I looked out of the window and noticed that I could begin to see the hospital from where we were.

“I have been praying. He will get better. God will allow him to get better.”

“Yea, I hope so.” I nodded my head, praying that the light that was holding out car up, quickly changed.
