I watch her arrive, her gaze flicking up to my window and her face flaming as she see's me watching her before she dips her head and hides behind the waterfall of soft curls. Moving round to help her father unload the car and resolutely keeping her gaze down.
I growl softly, frustrated that just the sight of her makes my body react and I let my mind wander over the last time I saw her. Natalie and Sophie had stolen her clothes from the locker room at the pool, then pushed her out into the hallway dripping wet and wrapped in only a small towel, just managing to keep the key areas covered, the waiting crowd had laughed and jeered, the other boys calling out crude comments and trying to pull away the towel, as she had fled back to her dorm, tears falling silently. It had been a shock to me how my body had responded, but not as big a shock as the way my mind had questioned why she was our target, for the last two years, she had been a target for our group and I had finally wondered what she had done to deserve this.
After that day she had gone home early, finishing a week ahead of the rest of us and we had waited, speculating that she would finally tattle about the bullying but it didn't happen, instead the gossip had turned to Natalie and Jonah who had been found in the Principles office stealing test sheets. Both had been expelled and we had all been questioned and lectured about our behaviours, it seemed the faculty had been aware of us bullying Camilla but as she had not complained their hands were tied.
I continued to watch as her father hauled out two cases and she lifted a big box into her arms, the box drowning her tiny frame, as she led him towards the building, I started moving before my brain caught up, grabbing my room keys I rushed out to intercept them, knowing she would struggle to carry that up the stairs.
"Let me help" I said, my hands coming up to take the box as she jumped in fright at my sudden appearance.
"No, go away, I can man..." but I had taken the box from her, ignoring her protest as I looked over her head at her father, who was stood behind her.
"Millie, let him help" he prompted, stepping up and making her take a step forwards, I moved back and let her pass, grinning at the fiery glint in her eye as she huffed before moving up the stairs ahead of us. "Thank you" her father said as we followed her up the next set of stairs and along to her room.
She unlocked the door and stepped towards me, her arms out for the box, "I can take it from here" she muttered and I grinned again.
"Nonsense, i'll bring it in" I told her and followed her father into the room, placing the box carefully on her desk before turning to face him and holding out my hand. "I'm Kristian Kingston sir" I greet and he spares a quick glance at Camilla before shaking my hand, his grip firm to the point of pain and I struggle to keep my smile.
"I know who you are Kingston" he greets back and finally lets me go, before turning to Camilla and holding out the car keys. "Millie, I left a bag behind the seat, could you grab it" he asks her softly and she nods, looking between us with a frown before leaving.
"Why did you help her?" he questions once she had gone and I look at him, was he aware of the bullying, had she told him?
"Sir?"
"Kingston, last term my daughter came home early, she refused to say why, just said she felt ill, I spoke to the school when our doctor could find nothing wrong and was surprised to find out that for the last two years my daughter has been a target of some of the pupils here, she has told us nothing and the school were quick to say she had not made any complaints about anyone, even when asked, now I don't know if you were one of those involved, but I can guess you are, by her reaction to you, but if anything happens again I will ensure that I use every option available to me to make those who hurt her pay, do you understand me"
I swallowed nervously "Yes sir, I understand"
"Good, now get out before she comes back" he tells me and I do, heading back to my room to think about what he said.
