Chapter XII - Confessions

Rey is your best friend and you have been best friends for years but something has changed in your friendship - the dynamic and not in a good way. It first started when you were assigned to a mission that was quite dangerous. Rey wasn't happy about it and tried to persuade you not to go but for her to go instead. You appreciated the sentiment but you were confident to go without her. 

For some reason, Rey wasn't happy about it and when you got back from your mission, she probed you about what happened and checked if you were okay. At first, you thought that was Rey being a protective best friend but your thought patterns changed when Rey kept on getting angry/upset whenever you were expected to go on dangerous missions.

You asked her if there was a problem but she kept telling you there was none. You were skeptical but you just had to take her word for it. You had no idea why Rey began acting so strange because it wasn't like you got angry or upset whenever she was assigned a dangerous mission. You always told her to be careful but that was the extent of it. You didn't try to convince her not to go and you certainly didn't get angry at her when she refused. You kept pondering on the matter and even asked Poe and Finn if they knew why Rey was acting so strangely but just like you, they had no clue. It was a real mystery.

However, it gets to a point where you can't stand Rey's attitude anymore. You get into a fight and it starts because Rey is being overprotective again. It was getting so frustrating because Rey was insisting that you don't go on a mission that you were actually keen to go on. You had been training hard and this mission would test your abilities. You are both nervous and excited but Rey is extremely hesitant and reluctant to let you go. 

You keep telling Rey that you can take care of yourself but she won't listen. You go back and forth arguing and it gets really heated. You don't want to leave for your mission when you've just been fighting with Rey. You haven't fought like this with her before and you hate it. She is so stubborn and you have no idea why but it's so infuriating and it makes you snap.

"Why are you being like this?" You probe.

"Because I love you!" She snaps.

You freeze and stare at Rey as if she were some life form that you have never seen before. There is a long pause and in that pause, Rey realises what she just said and is in shock. Her eyes are wide and her hands cover her mouth. She DEFINITELY didn't mean to say that.

"I... Uh... I..." Rey tries to speak but she can't seem to string together any coherent words.

"You love me?" You check.

Rey stares at you for a few moments before a weak smile appears on her lips, which is accompanied by a nod.

"Yeah," she shrugs and you know she's embarrassed.

"Would it make you feel any better if I said that I'm in love with you, too?"

Rey's eyes light up. "Really?" A small chuckle is laced in her tone.

"Yeah," you nod with a smile.

Rey sighs with relief as a beaming grin spreads across her face and you immediately see the old Rey - the Rey you know and love. You smile back at her as she rushes towards you and presses her lips on yours. You catch her in your arms and hold her tightly. The kiss is intense and Rey practically bends you backwards when you kiss. You giggle into the kiss, holding onto her for dear life before she stands you upright and pulls away.

"So..." You begin softly. "You're coming with me on this mission, aren't you?"

"You're damn right I am."

You and Rey share a laugh then link arms as you walk out of your quarters and towards your spacecraft.
