Bailey

I sighed calmly, giving him a light smile in return.
We stood there for another moment before-
BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP
An alarm went off, almost shaking the entire glade.
BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP
Newt's gaze fell from mine as he looked over at the box. "That can't be possible, we shouldn't be getting anything for another couple of weeks."
BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP
I turned my attention to where he was facing, "What is it?"
He scoffed unhappily as the siren stopped, "It means supplies and a Greenie are comin' up."
"Like the box I came out of?"
"We all came out of it at some point but, it only comes up once a month."
My eyes widened, "But, I just got here."
"Exactly."
He started to head down toward the box as I followed close behind. His steps seemed to double mine as we walked to meet the other boys. I had to jog to keep up with his fast pace.
Why was it back up early?
The gladers huddled around it, pushing past each other to get a better look. I lost Newt throughout all the commotion.
Everyone was talking at once. They each had their own ideas about what was inside.
It was hard to hang on to one conversation, a little déjà vu if you ask me.
At this point, everything was pushed together into one statement.
"I wonder if it will be another girl."
"Yea, tell Newt hands off this time."
"Wait, does Newt like Bailey?"
All the chatter stopped as soon as Gally walked through. He called for some of the other builders and they worked together to open up the metal gates cautiously. The tan boy thanked his friends and hopped inside.
He then used the same routine as he did for me.
"Rise and shine, Greenie," he started, helping the new glader up and letting them onto the grass, "Welcome to the Glade."
The couple of boys that surrounded me all huffed unhappily, seeing that it wasn't another girl.
I will admit, it would've been nice to have some company.
I stared at the boy for a split second, my eyes flickering across his features. There was something really familiar about him.
Alby started to talk aloud, explaining the rules and telling him where he was. He had a lot more questions then I originally thought he would. Most of the questions he asked were based around the walls and what was inside. Alby tried his best to avoid answering them.
I barely had any questions at the start so he seemed very curious.
Newt suddenly came up behind me, taking a hold of my hand and giving it a light squeeze. "Something's different about him," he whispered.
I nodded slowly, "Yea, I can feel it too."
The new Greenie had soft dark brown hair and eyes. Slight stubble touched his chin and jaw. His shirt was barely torn, it looked almost brand new.
He glanced over at me and smiled before looking back at our leader.
My brows knitted together roughly as I gave him another look over.
There was definitely something weird about him. Like he was going to change everything.
Newt bumped my shoulder with his own playfully, "Care to finish our conversation from earlier?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I grinned at him, "Aw what about the Greenie? Aren't you at least a little curious about meeting him?"
His face then turned a light shade of pink as he rubbed the back of his neck uncomfortably. "I'd rather worry about you."
I snickered a little, "Liar."
He gleamed at me happily, removing his palm
from his neck, "I'd never lie to you."
I smiled before sighing, and waving a hand up to dramatically touch my forehead, "We may have to safe it for another time."
"Aw, why?" he pouted.
I laughed at him before our conversation was interrupted by the third in command. He waved a hand at us, signaling me to come over. I let go of Newt's hand, giving him a final wink before following Gally.
"What's up, Gal?" I asked, walking slowly behind him.
He groaned, "Don't call me that."
I rolled my eyes, "Fine, what do you want?"
He pointed over at Alby, who was talking to the newbie near the homestead. "Its your duty to show the Green-bean around," he paused, "Alby wants you to run over and say hi real quick."
I smiled and thanked him, walking quickly over to the darker man. I almost stumbled, tripping on my own feet from how fast I was walking. He grinned at me happily, lending a hand in my direction, "Ah! Here she is! Thomas, this is Bailey, you'll make sure to treat her with as much respect as you'd give any of us."
Thomas nodded sternly, holding his hand out to me, "Nice to meet you, Bailey."
I was dumbfounded for a moment, his name replaying through my head.
"I saw you," it croaked, "in the lab."
"You were there with Thomas."
I took another step backwards, away from the creature who only stood a couple yards away. "I don't know who Thomas is." I responded.
"Don't lie to me!" it screamed, "I saw you! You were there! You were getting tested on!"
"I really have no idea what your talking about."
"I watched as he stuck a needle into your neck. You twitched slightly, grabbing ahold of his arm before you passed out," the beast chuckled demonically, "He picked you up and mumbled something about a new project! You can't lie to me!"
My mouth dropped slightly.
Thomas.
I quickly took his hand in mine and gave it a small shake, "It's nice to meet you too, Thomas."
We've got some catching up to do.
