Mitch had finally gotten to go home. He would stay home one more day before going to school, though.
He talked to Scott sometime after school got out, and they discussed their upcoming date.
"I think later this week," Mitch said.
"Okay," Scott said. "So...are you free Friday?"
"This is America; I'm always free," Mitch told him, with amusement glinting in his eye.
Scott rolled his eyes. "How on earth do you get things done?" he asked.
"I ask myself that every day," Mitch responded. "And to properly answer your question, I have things to do on Friday."
"You just got out of the hospital!" Scott exclaimed.
"Yeah?" Mitch asked. "I'm fine. We have to get right back to work, because we don't want anyone to forget about us."
Scott shook his head. "People ask me every day about you," he said. "They're not going to forget about you, I promise."
Mitch sighed. "Still," he said. "That still means it's good for us to do the interview, because people will want to know that I'm alright. Besides, our record label likes it when we do interviews. So, that's good for us; it scores us points with the label."
Scott sighed. "Well," he said, "I suppose that at least you're talking to your fans, and letting them know you're alright."
Mitch nodded. "Yep," he said.
"So," Scott said hoping in vain for a good answer this time, "When are you available? Please give me a straight answer."
"I'm not straight, and neither are my answers," Mitch replied.

They went out that weekend. They went to a restaurant together. It was somewhat fancy, and people were giving them weird looks. Neither of them were very surprised, as you wouldn't really expect to see two teenagers at a place like that.
They had a good time. They talked, discussing school, Mitch's career, and Scott's plans for after high school.
"I wanna be, like, a children's therapist of some sort," Scott said. "A speech or physical therapist in particular. I love kids, but I can't have any of my own due to being gay. So, I want to be able to help kids with overcoming their struggles. It'll be hard, but it'll be rewarding, I'm sure."
Mitch nodded. "That's very conscientious of you," he said. "I admire people who want to do that sort of thing. You might have a chance to do some amazing things. There would be kids with, like, disabilities and stuff who you would help a lot. They'd never forget you. When they're, like, famous or something, then they would publicly thank you. You're disgusted by the idea of fame, but being thanked on camera by someone who's success is because of you is one of the most wonderful things in this world."
Scott had stars in his eyes at this point. He liked this idea. He had been a bit on the fence, not entirely sure if this was what he wanted to do, but he was sure now. That was what he was after. He wanted the satisfaction of seeing kids change a lot, and seeing them become successful because he eased their struggles. That was what would bring him happiness one day.
Mitch smiled, watching Scott. He was sweet. He truly did admire the people who wanted to work to improve the lives of other people. He admired Scott because of it. He smiled even more, and said, "So, you like the thought of it?"
Scott nodded. Mitch smiled, and pushed his plate aside, leaning across the table and gently kissing Scott. He was happy to be with this sweet, conscientious boy who wanted to do good things with his life.
That happiness faded when he heard what was the most horrifying sound in the world at that moment: a camera shutter. Mitch turned to see someone that he knew was a reporter sitting at a nearby table, with her small professional camera in her hands.
Mitch turned to Scott. Their kiss had clearly been caught on camera, and now, the public would very quickly learn of their relationship. Their relationship that was meant to be a secret.
He heard Scott's voice beside him. "Oh, shi...."
