"So," Kirstin said, as she caught up with Mitch in the hallway. "Remember, we have an interview today at 3:45. You might not be able to go home. Are you gonna wear that?"
Mitch nodded. "It's what I wore on our first tour."
"I know that," Kirstin told him. "Still, it just seems...I don't know...."
"I know," Mitch said. "It's very different from what I generally wear now. Still, it's the only outfit I have from a show that's in dress code."
"That's sad," Kirstin said.
"Well, everything I've worn has been reasonable," Mitch told her. "It just wasn't in the silly dress code."
Mitch and Kirstin had both wanted to do something interesting at every interview, and they had settled on wearing clothes from past concerts. They never agreed what concert to do; they just wore the clothes from whichever one they wanted. (A/N- I know they don't actually do this, I just wanted to do this.)
"Those pants aren't from the same show as your shirt," Mitch observed.
"I wanted to look a bit more normal," Kirstin told him. "I'll just leave the pants in the car when I go inside for the interview." She hesitated, then said, "My shorts don't go down past my middle fingers unless I'm sitting down. So I need the pants."
"Yeah, that makes sense," Mitch said. "They are a bit high-cut."
"They are," Kirstie agreed. "Anyway-"
"I have to go to class," Mitch interrupted her.
"We're walking," Kirstin said.
"Slowly," Mitch pointed out. "I can't be late."
"Fine, talk to you after the next class," Kirstie said.
_
After the next class, Kirstie found Mitch again. "Now, what did you want to talk about?" he asked.
"They might ask you questions about Scott," she said under her breath.
Mitch realized she was right. "I'll be ready for that," he promised.
"I hope you will," she told him.

3:40 the same day
Mitch and Kirstie went into the building they were going to have their interview in. They smiled, sitting down and exchanging niceties with the reporter. At exactly 3:45, they started the camera.
"So, how are you?" asked the interviewer.
"We're good," Mitch said.
"Good," said the reporter. "Now," he looked down at the cards in his hands. "Mitch, it's very much common knowledge by now that you're gay. What is it like, being at your age--and going to school now--and famous, and being out?"
"Well," Mitch said, "Safe to say, most people don't want to bully me." He chuckled. "Although, there are those that do that. It isn't enough to totally ruin school for me, especially since there are always people who are very quick to defend me. But, well, I'll just have to put up with the people who do that. So far, no one's tried to fight me yet, and I'm thankful for that. So, I've been using that as my bright side, I guess you could call it. So, yeah. That's what it's like. The fans, obviously, don't seem to mind. In fact, I guess some of them look up to me for it."
"Cool," said the reporter. "It's sad that you do get teased, though."
"I've learned to deal with mean people," Mitch replied. "You learn that when you're famous. Can we move on to the next question, please?"
"Sure," the reporter said. "Are you guys planning another tour any time soon? This is the time of year when you would normally tour. Will school get in the way, or are you going to go on tour?"
"It'll be shorter than usual, since it has to be over Fall Break, but we're definitely doing a tour," Kirstin said.
"Good," said the reporter. "If you didn't do one, it would be missed. How will you shorten it?"
"We're going to do a show every night," Mitch said. "And it'll be in a European country, since we can knock out one or two of those faster than touring the States. It'll only be for less than a month, then."
"Alright," said the reporter. "Now, next question. Have either of you ever thought about doing a solo EP?"
"Yes," Kirstin said. "We've discussed that in the past. I'm going to do one, probably when we're done with school."
"I've thought about it, but I'm going to see what my voice thinks." Mitch chuckled. "It's gotten higher in the past few years. I think it's mostly stable now, but there are people at my school who's voices are just now beginning to deepen." He shrugged. "So, we'll still just have to see if it continues changing, and if it gets higher or lower, or whatever. Then I'll think about a solo album."
"Now," said the reporter. "I have one for Kirstin."
"'Kay," she said.
"So, I mentioned that Mitch is openly gay. It seemed like you knew ahead of time. When did he tell you, and what was your initial reaction?"
"I cried a lot," Kirstin responded. "You see, that was the day the genius to my left learned how not to break up with someone." As she said this, she turned to face Mitch, glaring.
"I apologized!" Mitch protested.
Kirstin rolled her eyes. "Anyway, once I got over the initial shock," she said, "then I was fine with it." She shrugged. "I had to accept him," she continued. "After all, he was the same person. Nothing was really different."
"Alright," said the reporter. "So, Mitch." He leaned forward. "Speaking about your sexuality, you recently had quite the messy breakup. What caused that sudden argument in the park a few days ago?"
"Well, lots of things factored into it," Mitch replied. "We had an argument the day before that. And, well, I think that just...broke the camel's back. Can we not talk about him, please?" Mitch knew that his eyes were welling just slightly. This was on purpose. He had to be convincing, after all.
While they did the rest of the interview, Mitch kept his responses short, and his head down just slightly. He let Kirstin talk a little bit more than she usually did. He usually answered the majority of questions.
_
"You were amazing," Kirstin praised. "You seemed genuinely sad about Scott. But you didn't say why." She grinned. "It'll keep the kids guessing. That's going to give us all kinds of attention. Good job."
"Thanks," Mitch said.
Kirstin's smile faded. "You all right?"
Mitch sighed. "It's just...I mean...." He looked up at her. "I hate pretending," he whispered. "And I feel like I'm going to make the truth apparent."
"You won't, though," Kirstin said. "Mitchie, promise me and yourself that you won't."
"I-I promise," Mitch said uncertainly.
Now he just had to keep that promise. But promises are slippery things, like secrets. It wouldn't be easy to keep hold of both. Or either.

I love ominous endings like that, don't you?
